Must buy if u r up to learn the basics of linguistics. The best thing about this book is its simplicity and the way Yule makes u digest the most complicated theories ranging from Saussure to Bloomfield and down to Chomsky.

This is an easy to read introduction to a range of topics. This book was recommended text for M.A English literature and provided supplementary reading for the main guide provided by Madras University.Provides a good base for entry into specific subjects.Good value for money.

Very good book. A student of English literature should have read it.
