Great piece of kit. Works really well. Ashame it didn't have the dusk / dawn sensor as I've had to adjust the timings a few times as the evenings get longer. That said it takes just seconds to adjust. It is quiet. I read reviews for other doors saying they were noisy. This door is super quiet and smooth. Would definitely recommend it.

Now that controlling the fox population has become virtually impossible, and their population numbers have exploded, people like me who keep chickens have an increasingly difficult time keeping their birds alive. Several times I've gone down to my chicken shed in the morning, only to find that a fox has got in during the night and killed or mortally wounded every single one of them. Foxes don't just take one to eat, they kill everything in sight, just for the sport. I really wish that those well meaning people who champion the rights of foxes could witness the carnage and suffering they unleash on farm animals. This is why an automatic door such as this is now vital - once closed for the night, roosting hens are safe from being predated.This is a good value and (so-far) reliable door, and it works very well on my chicken coop, both for the safety of my birds and my own peace of mind and ability to sleep at night without worrying! It's powered by three AA batteries and the listing suggests using alkaline, but I highly recommend you invest in a set of rechargeable lithium batteries instead. Unlike alkaline, lithium batteries do not die if the temperature goes below zero, and they operate at 1.5V rather than the 1.2V of nicads.This door has a 24 hour clock and can be set to open and close at set times, or operated manually if you prefer. Personally speaking I like to close it manually so I can make sure none of my chickens have been accidentally locked out for the night. In the mornings it opens automatically, while I'm still in bed. There's no light sensor in this shutter. A great safety feature is built in too - the door will stop if it closes on top of a chicken, and close again a few seconds later when the opening is clear. So there's no chance of trapped chickens. Operation of the shutter is smooth and reasonably quiet.This shutter door is excellent value for money, and compared to the cost and anguish of senselessly slaughtered chickens, it's a no brainer, and a very wise investment. Top marks from me.

Simple to fit and use, this seems to be a well-made solution to reducing the risk of losing the chickens to foxes. We are using it in the garden of a house in a town, and urban foxes are a significant problem, both the loss of the birds and the trauma of clearing up afterwards. Setting this to lock as it gets dark makes me feel safer and less likely to feel the need to keep checking that all is well. The chickens didn't seem to confused so it this looks like a great solution.
