You Suck at Racing: A crash course for the novice driver

An appetizer for racing.
A very good book for getting started. I read this book within a couple of days, started it right after a track day on a course that I was not familiar with so it gave me a lot of insight on how to approach a new track, what I sucked at, and some new avenues to explore. Obviously this is not a book for a veteran racer. But for an HPDE 1/2 it is fantastic for 3/4 drivers who might be starting racing it would be good too as you would get a primer for racing. The author did a great job of making it easy to understand and used a KISS approach. I have Skip Barber's book too and this one was the right first book as it has given me enough knowledge to move on. The author also gave a lot of resources for further reading which is appreciated. He never pretends that this book is the only book you will ever need. I truly appreciated his ABC approach to racing/driving. Anyone who can include Isaac Asimov and driving is worth a read.

A must-read first read for racing enthusiasts
If you are a racing fan and want to partake in motorsports, this book should be your first read. It is written by a scientist who is a professor at UC Davis. Professor Korf races at an amateur level for the joy of it. As such, the text is rich with information that will save your life, wallet, and reputation on track. And it is infused with experiential insights pointedly aimed at helping you to get started in racing, and to enjoy the journey. Of course, there are diagrams, charts, and tables, just like other books on the subject. But the key differentiators of this book are the succinct, pragmatic writing style; charming, alphabetical presentation order; memorable quotes; and delightful sprinkles of humour. Most motorsports books are written by journalists, drivers, and engineers. Journalists extol the virtues of cars, tracks, and drivers. Drivers expose their professional exploits. Engineers expound the technical subtleties. These perspectives are valuable, especially for those who wish to turn professional, someday. But if your aim is to enjoy racing as an amateur, Professor Korf's book should be the first one you read. It contains all the rudiments of racing you will need to begin. I wish there was a book like this, when I started in amateur racing three decades ago.

Excellent book for anyone new to racing cars- real world or video game drivers
This is a fantastic book for someone new to the world of race car driving. It does an excellent job at describing the terminology used in this sport. It is very informative with text and drawings that explains how to navigate around the various curves and corners encountered on a race course. The author does all this with very easy to understand descriptions and humor to keep the reader engaged throughout the short book. My only negative comment is that the book ends so quickly. I learned a great deal from reading this book and will apply the knowledge I gained to my race car driving on my PlayStation 4.

Good info but wow... it's not a fun read.
The author knows what he is talking about and everything he is teaching you is valid. The theory and the technique are sound. What is really hard to get though is how he explains things. There are other authors that know how to take complexities and put them in context that anyone can understand. This Author is not a race engineer who is explaining something very complex to a professional driver; however; it took me several re reads on a chapter or concept until I understood what he was teaching. There are far more difficult to read, technical manuals out there but I was hoping for explanations that were easier to grasp. For me, this is like a text book for a class in racing rather than a straight forward explanation of how to take a curve at speed and what to expect.Just the same it's a very good book on the science.

Jumble
A lot of good information jumbled into an alphabetic mess. The format of the book actually makes it more difficult to use as any kind of reference. Good for a single read thru as the information is informative.

Kindle Sucks...
I would love to say the this is great book BUT it does not display properly using any of the Amazon Kindle devices or apps. I do not think this is the author's fault... I have complained about this issue to Amazon customer service and of course, Amazon did nothing about it... Do yourself a favour and buy the the paperback version.
