Plug and Play for mac, compact and no power supply needed, great for mobile recording!
Yes, there are alot of options for interfaces these days and options like this popup quite a bit. That being said, this one is just as good as the others in my opinion if you are just needing basic recording. I normally use a Black Lion Audio modded Digi003 rack with my MacBook for mobile recording and Logic for my DAW. While in the middle of a session, I plugged in the Sunbuck (Crimson) interface and the mac instantly recognized it as an audio option. I was able to switch to it while in session surprisingly! So, as far as compatibility, this seems to be fully compatible and didn't need any any downloads or drivers. I recorded a stereo mic setup for acoustic with the 2 inputs and with a little playing with the gain staging, was able to get a solid, high fidelity, low noise recording. With any interface, if you use plugins on the master buss or track itself, it can introduce latency. This interface does have a "direct monitoring" button that allows you to hear the dry signal coming into the interface. You don't even need to have a DAW open to hear the dry signal so it is indeed zero latency. It has an "AIR" button but i didn't really hear a difference when engaged. As far as build, it is a metal body and feels nice and solid. Nothing rattling around in there. (It feels similar to a more well known interface that is the same color.) So, with that and the ability to record at higher bandwidths make this a decent contender for a 2 channel interface in my opinion. Its very simple, small, and lighter to carry than my digi003 so, for just capturing quick ideas or for a simple podcast with 2 channels, this would be fine. Up to you if you feel this is a good value for the price. At the time of this review, the Sunbuck 2024 2i2 interface JSU606 was $79.99.
