Excellent book to complement the TV series!
Bought as a present I'm assured it's as excellent as the TV series of the same name and a good point of reference for anything missed in the programme 👍

A story about Walter H. Thompson life as a bodyguard of Churchill
I enjoyed the book tremendously. One learns a lot about what World War 2 was like and the blitz in London and how brave and fiercely patriotic was Winston Churchill and his genuine near misses when he could have been killed. Churchill flew a lot during the war to the Middle East, the USA and Europe for various meetings with the President of the United States or/and Stalin at certain crucial times in the war and he flew to France a week or so after D-Day to see how it was going and he was an amazing force of nature. Thompson was very loyal to him as his bodyguard and they had a nice friendship. Thompson was a good communicator and knew how to reign in Churchill's impulses to take security risks. In the last few years of his time as a bodyguard with him, he had an affair with one of Winston Churchill's private secretaries who Thompson later married. She was however let go at the time of the discovery of their affair by Churchill as Churchill's wife (who didn't like Thompson) took a dim view of the relationship as Thompson was still married although the marriage was long over from the pressure of his months away with Churchill. She wanted Thompson gone too, but Churchill wanted to retain his services and he did. He also was his bodyguard for a time in an earlier time during world war 1 and again for a time in the 1920s when Winston was serving as a minister in government. All in all what a life they both lived, he and Churchill, especially during World War 2.

Great book
It is great to have a glimpse into the life of one of the greatest men's life from first hand experience but not by himself. Tom Hickman did a great job, I really enjoyed everything he wrote however limited it might have been, it gave an excellent description of Churchill and his life and their relationship. I wish he were alive and could continue writing! Would feel myself like a kid, listening to great and real stories. Thanks for flying me back to the age of these heroes.

Well-written, easy to read, exciting and it does justice to Thompson
Having read the original autobiography of Walter Thompson, this biography does good justice and is well written. Given how uncommon Thompson's autobiography is to find these says, this novel is a fine substitute.

Interesting Read
An interesting and thorough collection of anecdotes that are revelatory about aspects of Churchill’s character as well as that of Walter. A worthwhile read for those who appreciate Churchill’s achievements for GB but also the daunting sacrifices of his support team including Walter which have too often gone unremarked.

Tom Hickman has taken Cmd. Walter Thompson's story and ...
Tom Hickman has taken Cmd. Walter Thompson's story and highlighted the most interesting aspects of his role as Churchill's bodyguard. I found the book fascinating and enticing to read. Having read it, I dared to wonder what might have happened had Great-Grandpapa not had Thompson by his side for all those years, especially through the Blitz.

A really good book...
A quite different sort of viewpoint for this subject. It was and is an easily read book. It is not a dry history as so much of this sort can be. The author has a good knack at writing the history/action/behavior of the subject in a enjoyable manner. It is specialty book that probably interests a few...but I'd recommend it to many.
