Surprisingly effective and reasonably priced to boot
I have a 7-month old puppy that was potty trained prior to ordering this. He had learned that when he needed to go out, he should go and sit by the front door. Unfortunately, he would sit there quietly, and if no one saw him, he was likely to have an accident. I had heard about training dogs to use a bell, but I had my doubts that it would work. When I came across this item, which was reasonably priced at $7.99, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did, because it is working great! This product is simple and straightforward. It is a sturdy strap, two attachment rings, and three silver bells. We have an oddly shaped front door knob, and my husband didn't have any issues securing this product to it. All the components are well made and good quality, which is a huge plus considering the item's low cost.Once it was operational, we introduced our dog to it prior to taking him out to go to the bathroom. We had him sit, attached his leash, said our usual phrase ("Do you need to go out?"), and then gently tapped the bells to his nose. By the end of the day, he went to the door and nosed the bell himself. Honestly, I thought it was a fluke, but sure enough, he peed as soon as we went outside. This behavior has been consistent now for a week.Initially, I was concerned our dog, who has a high prey drive, would simply view this as a toy and try to tear it down from the door. That hasn't happened once. He has never tried to touch or play with it in anyway unless he is wanting to go out. This is a huge relief, because it is working so well. No matter where I am in our house, I can hear the bells ringing and can get to the door quickly. I can recommend this without hesitation.

Not for door knobs
This is more for lever type handles, not for door knobs though not impossible to put on a door knob either with a hook mounted on the door or looping the rope around on itself, the rings are semi-soft and can be pushed through each other to loop it around a door knob.

Already working for our puppy
We've had these just one week and they are already working for our 12 wk old puppy. She caught right on. There is a weird sort of clasp on the ring that fits around the door handle. I get it. It will not easily come off when using the door handle but it is a lil frustrating to affix to the door handle. A weird spring goes over the clasp to keep it from coming undone and then you rotate it to the bottom and that gets covered by the ribbon and then you cinch a rubber band up to the doorknob to keep that tight. It's just overkill. I bought a second set of bells and it just has a simple snap for the ribbon that goes around the handle. Much easier. I had to move this set of bells to another door and it was so frustrating to loosen the rubber band, spin the ring to the top, pull and pull and pull on the spring to try to get it out of the way, and then undo the clasp so I could remove it from the door and move it to another door. Sheesh. Don't know if I'd recommend this design unless you have a door that somehow really is problematic and the bells tend to fall off. Trust me, with this set up, they won't budge. But as far as the bells working well-it works like a charm. and I like the triple bell design. Makes a pretty sound.

Still trying to open the ring
So there is a ring on each end with a spring clasp that is supposed to release so it can be hung from the knob. But I still can't get the ring apart. I'm afraid to use any tools for fear of damaging the spring so that it won't close again. But the bells are plenty loud and the strap has ample length. I just wish I could hang it.

Useful doggy doorbell for potty time
This is a great tool for puppy potty training. It’s sturdy and holds up to tugging. It’s long enough for a small pup to reach when attached to standard sized door. I recommend this for any new pet parent.

Seems to be working
So, we are trying to train our dog to use this to let us know when he needs to go outside. He is starting to get the idea. But it is also a bit annoying to hear the bells every time someone opens the door. However, you can keep track of your kids coming and going as well.

Works perfect
In a household of three dogs (one younger dog especially), I wanted them to be able to easily learn and signal the need to go outside. So far they have really taken to it and it is a great tool. For us, the best thing was to use an adhesive hook on the wall by the door to hang it rather than putting it on the doorknob (otherwise it was swinging around when we opened the door and kept blocking the door from closing).
