Kensington SD5200T Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station - 85W PD - Dual Monitor 4k for Mac and PC (K38300NA)

After having to upgrade my Macbook Pro to new version with Thunderbolt3/USB-C, I needed a new dock to replace my old Elgato Thunderbolt 2 docks (I keep 2, one for home and one for office). I was hoping to find one to be able to power 2 external monitors, one of which is 4K.This dock has worked perfectly from 1st minute. I have bth monitors plugged in, the 4k using Thunderbolt 3 port and the 2nd (2560x1440) using full-size DisplayPort port. Plus having the gigabit ethernet, external speaker, and USB port to hang a small hub for keyboard, mouse, and external drive for Time Machine backups. And all that, and power the Macbook, using just the one port makes easy detach/reattach as I move from home to office and back.Great product.

Only one monitor will show at a time, I am trying to use two monitors. The display port monitor will not show up. After the first call to tech support, the tech was unable to correct the problem and just hung up on me. The second tech on the second call told me I needed an "active" display port cable. I ordered one and it too does not work. I have tried this station on both mac and pc and with three different types of AOC monitors. It simply does not work. This is the second hub I have ordered that does not work. I was told the first one was because it was mac only and I have a pc. This model is supposed to be for both but will not work on either. I will be returning this item.

I learned about Kensington early on when I was looking for decent Mice that were not meant to be tossed away. Their Thunderbolt 3 docking station was the 3rd attempt at a product that promised a lot but didn't deliver much. To be honest, non-apple (windows based) laptops took a a long time to include a truly functional thunderbolt 3 port. Luckily, Razer was ahead of the power curve. Luckily, "threes the charm" as the saying goes. Out of the box to fully functional...would you believe 10 minutes. Everything worked on the first try. Overall this if a good product, worked well for me for my personal use for a year or so, then early last year was using it for my work at home environment for another year. A couple weeks ago the system flaked and my USB ports stopped working. Looks like a couple spots on my board burnt.

I wanted a quality dock for a MacBook Pro 15" so that I could keep it cleanly off to the side while working with external monitor/keyboard/mouse. Been using this for a few weeks and it fit the bill perfectly. A single thunderbolt cable provides networking, external monitor, USB, and power. I was also able to connect a DVI monitor to it via a thunderbolt to DVI adapter without issue. Construction feels high quality. The only downside here is perhaps the cost, but for serious/professional use it's probably worth it.

It looks good, and feels like a quality item, but has a big flaw.Half of the time that I take my 3 month old MacBook pro out of sleep, or just reopen the lid, the display port output from the dock does not send a signal to the monitor (I have two new large external LG monitors). So I have to reach behind the doc and unplug it, and then wait for the monitors to get discovered by the Mac, maybe 30 seconds. I wish it just had two HDMI outputs and that they both worked reliably.I also wish the front of it was covered with old style USB receptacles, because as you can see in the picture I had to buy an amazon basics 7 plug USB hub (highly recommended).Given that the dock has a display port issue, I wish it had a power switch on the front so that I could reboot it more easily.I didn't find a good quality alternative from a known company (I am unwilling to send data through a hub from a no-name company, that could be full of spyware). So I am living with the reboot inconvenience.I might buy one of those foot operated xmas tree extension cords, so I can reboot it more easily. Or maybe one of those idevices homekit plugs, "Siri, reboot my Kensington dock" (kind of just kidding).

I have been looking for a true dual display hub with built in charging for my work desk. I have a 2018 macbook pro 13" with touch bar/ID. After trying a few others from Best Buy and Fry's (one of which i had to return), this did the job. Single wire to my laptop for everything. I even have a Jabra headset bluetooth dongle on it, which works fine btw. with the laptop home screen, I have three (3) total - not mirrored - extended. I would highly recommend this to anyone else. Compared to some of the other ones at $300 or so, I thought this was also good value. And the dark grey goes with my laptop, which was a plus.

I purchased this product in Jan 2024 and it worked perfectly fine for my needs. So I ordered one more for my home use and the product I received had just the docking station in a box without the proper packaging, without the power adapter or any of the cables. Thinking it is one-off error with Amazon, I ordered a replacement and the replacement arrived the next day and again without proper packaging. It had just the docking station and the power adapter. I was able to return both of them but this is really frustrating that the quality control is really bad at Amazon. Please look into this.

Works great with two extra monitors, but doesn't charge macbook pro. :(
