Lovely version of simple Japanese comfort food
Ochazuke (or Chazuke) is a very traditional Japanese meal of rice with savoury toppings covered with hot liquid. It is sometimes served as a comfort food for those not feeling well enough to eat. Ingredients available at home (shichimi seasoning, sesame seeds, small amounts of meat) can be put on top and a dashi broth or green tea poured over. Sometimes people will even just pour a small amount of green tea over leftover rice at the end of the meal to finish it off.These small ochazuke packets contain seaweed and crispy rice cracker with green tea flavour already added meaning all you have to do for a quick and filling ochazuke meal is boil 100g of rice, sprinkle the ochazuke on top, and then pour over 150 ml boiling water. The packet can also be used with just boiling water for quite a simple broth-style hot drink. The seaweed goes soft in the hot water but the rice cracker stays fairly crispy which is a nice contrast.Recommended.
