A rare peak into the Reggio infant toddler centers
This book provides excerpts from the Diary of Laura, a teacher-created portfolio of a 10 1/2 month infant who attended an infant-toddler center in the city of Reggio Emilia, Italy in the early 1980s. Recently translated into English, this is one of the few widely available resources concerning the infant-toddler centers of Reggio Emilia. The diary excerpts include the famous story of "Laura and the Watch". Actual photographs of pages from the diary give the reader an idea of the actual layout of the diary. Following the diary is a chapter about when Laura visited her infant-toddler center as an adult with her own child and her mother. They reflect on her time spent there. Finally, chapters written by early childhood experts from around the world reflect on what can be learned from the Diary of Laura and from other documentation from the early childhood schools in Reggio Emilia. Chapter authors include J. Ronald Lally, Pat Wharton, Jan Millikan, Moonja Oh, Harold Goethson and Carolyn Edwards.

Simple, objective and definitely doable documentation in the classroom.
I was searching for a simple, objective, and doable documentation methods in the classroom. And this book offers excellent ides of how a teacher simply use daily pictures with a few comments to build the long term connection with parents and the child. This documentation method is process oriented than product oriented, a very heart feel communication.

not much of a diary
The book is not bad but you should know there are only about 5 pages of the original diary..the rest are comments and things that were later written about the diary.
