Comparing Different Types of Compression
I've tried a LOT of different types of compression. As someone with POTS, I wear compression garments literally every day, and I've tried lots of different styles, so I thought I'd compare these with other types of compression I've tried. This will be a long review, so if you'd like to read just about these tights, scroll to the end. I hope the info will be helpful for some!Compression Socks:Pros: the most cost-effective (you can buy a pack of 8 from CharmKing for $26), most stylish (lots of patterns to choose from, so you can pick based on your own style), and coolest (I live in the South and have to wear compression every day, but also struggle with heat sensitivity. Compression socks are definitely the best option for me for temperature control).Cons: least amount of compression coverage (they only go up to the knee, so they don't help with knee or thigh pain).Overall, I love compression socks. I've worn them all day every day for over a year. I'll definitely always have them in rotation.Thigh-high compression:Footless:Pros: Covers up to the thighs, so great for pain in knees/thighs. These tend to look more like leggings, so I felt like most people didn't realize I was wearing compression.Cons: uncomfortable- I found having no compression on my feet led to my feet going numb, and the suction on the tops to keep them in place was often uncomfortable. These also tend to wear out quickly, since they have to be tight at the tops to stay in place, once the band stretches out it's hard to keep them on. If you buy them in black, they tend to absorb the heat on sunny days, but the other colors tend to look a lot like medical clothing. Much more expensive than knee-high compression socks, but about the same as compression tights.Overall: I wouldn't buy the footless thigh-highs again mostly because they didn't have any compression in the feet and I couldn't stand having numb feet all of the time.Open-toe:Pros: Covers up to the thighs so great for knee and thigh pain. More comfortable than footless.Cons: Basically the same as footless but without the issue of my feet going numb.Overall: I used to wear these every day before I switched to knee-high compression socks. I wouldn't go back to these because they are more expensive than knee-high options and much less comfortable.Compression Pantyhose:Pros: incredibly comfortable (almost as comfortable as knee-high socks. I was worried they would be too tight on the abdomen, but they actually fit about like normal tights on the stomach, so not uncomfortable), best coverage (love having compression all the way up my legs, it feels so nice having coverage on my knees and thighs!)Cons: **edited to add** if you have sensory issues, be aware that there is a seem along the toes. It is by far my least favorite thing about these** not good for temperature control/ coolness (if you get them in black, they definitely absorb a lot of sunlight and can get hot really quickly in the summer.) More expensive than thigh-high socksOverall: I LOVE these! I just got them yesterday, but I will be wearing them a lot. I will definitely keep my knee-high socks to wear on warmer days and on days when my thighs and knees aren't in too much pain; but I love the option of more coverage for days when I need more compression. These are incredibly comfortable and I really love not having the issues with keeping them in place that I had with thigh-high compression. Also, I particularly liked the option to buy a 2-pack as the price was a bit better than buying just one pair.Do make sure you follow the measurements guide! These are meant to be tight, so getting the right size is super important. I was in between two sizes based on my measurements, so I opted to go with the larger size.I'll definitely be buying more of these and would recommend them. If I lived in a cooler climate, I'd likely wear these every day.
