Pretty good
It's a good tool, but not EASY. You do have to use a fair amount of elbow grease and skill.

tip of handle bites into palm of hand
The handle is fairly sharp at the end opposite the blade, and is uncomfortable when held in the palm of the hand. (I hold the tool in the palm of my hand, and assert pressure to make cuts in the pumpkin.) If you wear men's work gloves, or hold the tool like a pen or pencil to sculpt the pumpkin, problem is solved.

A big step up from the dinky little carvers in those stencil sets!
In the past 5 years I have spent at least $20 each Halloween season adding various products to my carving kit. As my children age and I find myself hosting more carving parties and being asked to create bigger & better designs, I also find myself struggling to find the best tools for the job. This carver is my favorite. Hands down. Safer than a knife and offers fantastic control. My 10 year old and 12 year old are both able to use it without trouble and I have yet to break one of these - which I cannot say about those dinky little carving tools that come for free with the stencil packets at most retail shops.
