Great content, so-so binding and layout
This review is for the product, the physical book, not the letters it contains. If you're looking for a book of letters from a preacher that lived 400 years ago, I'm pretty sure that you're familiar with the content. Lol.This book is a print-on-demand product, paperback, and 8 1/2 x 11 inches. There is only one column per page. The font is very readable.I'm rating this as 4 stars because of the large size and interior layout. The book itself is awkward to read because of its tall size and since there's only only one column of text, it is very easy to lose your spot and reread lines.I'd be willing to pay more money for a smaller book with more pages. I would be much more readable.

What a Classic!
What a classic. Puritan Samuel Rutherford has his eyes fixed on the Lord at all times and implores others to do the same. His letters are compelling because he writes many of them from prison, where he was being persecuted for not concurring with the Anglican church. A blessing.

A must!
We love reading these timeless letters! How unintelligent people sound today. It is unfortunate that we have become a nation that is so lazy that we cannot spell out our words.

Read this book - one of the few Life Changing books.
This book has changed my vocabulary, my writing style, my thinking, WOW. I can't recommend it enough. It was given to me by a dear friend and I have since given away three copies myself. Must Read. "May the grace of our fair, fair, fair, Lord Jesus be with your Spirit." Three times fair - Rutherford writes many times as you closes off his letter. Read him, read him out loud and see if Rutherford does not make you feel. He will. Oh the great gift of union with Christ and Oh, Oh the sweetness of communion with the Lord Jesus.

8 1/2" X 11" inch paperback
I was not expecting such a large book. I use a ruler to read it because the print is small and the page is wide. Having said that, I guess this was the most economical way to make the unabridged letters available. The biographical sketch of Rutherford's life in the preface is very helpful to give context to his personal letters to friends and family.

Encouraging and concise
This is an excellent curated series of communications from an important man of God during an important time in church history. As liable to call out his own shortcomings as he is to sharply exhort others to righteousness, here we see a full bodied life lived for Christ.

Worth the struggle to understand.
So much can be gleaned from the writings of past centuries. This is a great collection of letters which I needed to read slowly in order to understand the depth of what is written. I not only gained theological insights but also history lessons from the eyes and heart of Samuel Rutherford. Not a light read!

Read it fully
This was such a great book. I benefitted so much seeing the heart of a man who loves Jesus and loves his people. I wish I read it more slowly. At times the language is hard but it’s worth ploughing through. I’m looking forward to some of the letters. Loved it!

One of the best books ever
This writer's capacity for and use of simile and metaphor in relating the Christian experience will blow you away. This HAS to be one of the best books in the world - and it's just a load of letters! The language will seem a bit "literary" due to the period it was written in, but my goodness the writer's insights are incredible. Who else ever encouraged you to " Send up your heart to see the dwelling house and fair rooms in the New City" or who would boast "I find my Lord's cross overgilded and oiled with comforts" during his afflictions. This book is one of a kind!

Incomplete addition
I love Rutherford's letters. Yet I was gutted to get to the end of this addition only to discover it is incomplete. Close to 100 letters are missing compared to the printed addition.Very disappointing.
