Updated to review replacement- Thankfully I love mine now because the issues resolved !
Update: So after having this kindle for a week, I just couldn’t get on with it. Something wasn’t right with it. It did still have minor ghosting but the text seemed unclear. It was a strain. I called Amazon who offered replacement because I couldn’t accept refund due to a discount code I used and wouldn’t get back! Replacement came and I was stunned at how much worse it was compared to mine. I have attached photos where you can clearly see the same brightness settings but the replacement has a yellow screen without the warmth on!! 3rd try, phoned amazon again who didn’t really understand what I was talking about but sent me another replacement. This 3rd kindle made everything fall into place. It was white. I hadn’t realised that my original was grey. Text was crisper and ghosting not a thing. It’s pretty much perfect. It disappoints me that Amazon haven’t got this right. They did not push out a consistent product and should have recalled them. I will also warn you that Amazon will send you a replacement but it will be REFURBISHED as this is part of their warranty agreement. This to me is a bit of a joke given that I bought brand new and am keeping a second hand one. I have agreed to this because it’s better than my original and I know it can’t be older than October but I think it’s shoddy. It really is pot luck on the quality of what kindle you receive. I have left the 5 stars because I love my new (refurbished) kindle. But Amazon as a company get 2 stars now.3rd photo is my original with 1st replacement4th photo original(top) 1st replacement then last replacement which I kept.Original review:Received this for Xmas (which I arranged)! Got it for a great price, Black Friday PLUS traded in my old paper white 5th gen so got an extra 20% off. I went for the SE version for the auto light adjust. I really wanted the colorsoft but have been closely monitoring the reviews and I just wasn’t prepared to risk it. I had also been closely monitoring the reviews of this kindle too. The main faults being a yellow hue, dead pixels or ghosting. I will say that researching is good but in my case I over did it and so…When I opened this on Xmas morning the very first thing I did was QC myself, probably better than what Amazon have been doing! I was looking for the faults and to my despair it had bad ghosting. I was so disappointed. I could clearly see the book covers in the background of the next page. I did call Amazon and their robot told me they wouldn’t replace as they’re out of stock but I had time to request for exchange so I left it.There was a software update but I had to do this manually which is very easy to do, as it wasn’t showing on my kindle yet. I had also researched ghosting and apparently this is normal for any eink display (within reason) I just didn’t remember my old one doing this. For whatever reason my kindle is FINE now. The ghosting seems to have settled. This might be because it’s been sitting in its box a long time and now it’s being used it’s ok. It could have something to do with the update but I don’t think so. Yes, there is very minor ghosting now but I really have to look for it otherwise I wouldn’t notice. I wish I had read a review which said “it might be ok after a few hours use” which is why I wanted to leave this here! Bad form from Amazon for all the kindle issues, I assume they wanted it pushed out for Black Friday before Xmas but that’s just not good enough for these expensive devices.Things I love on this kindle are the warm light. Makes such a difference if you’ve never had it. The auto adjust. Love that I can go to bed and it just sorts itself out in the darkness. Dark mode is cool. The colour (jade) beautiful. Page turn animations are fancy and it is super speedy. I can actually search for a book in the store without waiting a whole minute for each letter to catch up!My only con is their current reputation!Hope this helps some people because I really love mine now. I have included some photos of the ghosting I was seeing but this has resolved!

Never really write reviews but this deserves it!
One liner: brilliant update well worth it. Have owned a lot (a lot!) of e-ink devices, Oasis, Remarkable 2, 2015 paper white 6, Boox Palma and Boox Note Air 3C. This is better than all of them. This is why I think it’s the best: The form factor/size is perfect. The white is whiter and the illumination more even than anything I’ve had before, and yes: 300DPI is essential- less than that and the pixelation is distracting (Remarkable is still not at that level). But the feature that you didn’t realise you needed till you have it? The SPEED of page turns and searching in your library. Honestly you would think it doesn’t matter. It’s a book, after all, not a video or internet search device. I don’t know why it makes such a joyous difference but IT DOES. And my guess is - when it’s this fast you don’t miss page turn buttons. Tapping the screen is okay. When Steve Jobs coined the term Retina display he anchored his tech in a physiological context. Limits of resolution = no conscious pixels. It was a game changer. Now, if you can get page turning fast, how fast is enough? Cue physiology. Not nano seconds, just shorter than the time for an eye to flick from the bottom of the screen (page done) to the top (next please). This is called a saccade and if the time is faster than this - I’m guessing 150 milliseconds (?) it seems instant. Another first: the saccadic display!!The case design is pretty simple but the back cover has a lovely feel. I will cover it with a case but … nice. Wish list? Something this size with a stylus. Small Scribe Amazon?! Yes please. Personally I don’t need colour. But hey - it’s fine as it is!! Thank you.—————-Came back to this after some time to add; battery life is incredible. Have had the Oasis and I guess form factor limited space for battery. This is back to the book-like reliability in terms of long life that Kindles are famous for. Brilliant!!

Upgraded old kindle very happy
Have had a kindle for many years and finally updated on a whim. So far so good. Easy to setup and lovely colour. Good storage capacity on the device as have hundreds of books on there. Screen is bigger and even clearer than previous kindle. Solid bit of kit and works with calibre as well as the native methods for transferring books. Power/transfer now on usb c which is great - no more trying to work out which way up the cable goes. Page turning works perfectly and also works with my page turner widget as well. Overall very sturdy and great performance as always has been on Kindle’s.
