Yes, you have to supply the microphone. And it does have playback sound. It will record sound and playback sound.

Q: Does weather proof also mean waterproof?

It will not work Underwater. But it works in the weather. It is better to use out of the rain, but I have four cameras mounted out in the rain.

Q: Can you have an hdtv hooked up with an hdmi cable in another part of the house and another monitor connected to the dvr in a closet and view the same
