: it's an apple slicer...to the core!
UPDATE: this corer has met its match. The first Cosmic Crisp apple i tried to cut with this corer, broke it beyond repair. the handles cracked and the middle, round section with the blades flew into the air. Use with caution and prepare for it to crack.there is one thing i like the most about this apple slicer. it just about FORCES the corer down through the center so that you end up with your apple pretty well centered after pushing through.it seems to have to do with the way the bottom try is lifted a bit and has a place for the corer to 'land'.it's best to clean with a brush if you have one, so you can get any apple in the blades out more easily.it's very sharp with serated edges, which i've never seen on an apple-corer before.i buy a lot of oversize honeycrisp apples and this seems to be perfect for them.i've been using it for about a year now and it's pretty perfect.

This is the apple slicer you want
I've had 4 or 5 of the 'regular' apple slicers with the straight blades that go through 95% of the apple but you end up having to do something with that last little bit, either pushing through the slices or trying to push down harder on something that's raised to help the blade go through father. They work, but not well. It's better than nothing, but you suspect there's a better way. There is, and this is it.The base that this slicer comes with seemed like an unnecessary addition when I first got it, but that's only because I hadn't experienced what it does first-hand. It helps hold the apple in place, especially ones with bottoms that aren't perfectly flat, but the hole in the middle is what really makes the big difference. The cutting action is both easier and less effort (the curved and serrated blades do a great job there), but compared to regular slicers, than coring action is massively better. It's really hard to appreciate it from the product pictures because every apple slicer picture makes it looks like they all cut through all the way just fine, but the others don't really do so and you don't find that out until after you've bought it and started using it.The coring blade fits into that hole in the middle, of course, so it cuts ALL THE WAY THROUGH the apple. There's no issue with the last little bit not really being cut and you're forced to try to deal with it by hand or pull the slices apart or anything like that. It's a subtle distinction, but it makes such a huge difference in actually using it.Once you've sliced through the apple, what you're left with is the core secure in the slicer (and easy to dispose of, like you could with other slicers), but more importantly the actual slices are now completely free of the core. You pull the slicer up and the slices just fall right out with no effort. It's such a nice experience.I know this long of a review probably seems silly, but I know that it's difficult to appreciate just how much better this slicer is compared to the 'normal' ones. Get this one and you won't be disappointed. It's a well-engineered slicer that makes all the difference in your apple slicing experience!

Rreturned - it doesn't cut well at all!
I had to return this because it did not slice the apple all the way through. I didn't think it was flimsy, but something is wrong when you have to stand up and press with both hands to either push down as hard as you can or bang it on the counter to her the cut all the way through the apple. Then I decided to buy and OXO brand thinking that this might be a better product. I returned that one as well. Same problem and it was made very cheaply. Finally, I found one like my old slicer made by Calphalon. I found it on Ebay for about the same price and it works like a dream!

Design Idea = 10, Execution - FAIL
I was excited about this little red thing. It was easy on the hands (arthritis), and because I knew it would receive limited use, I gave it 5 stars. Well, I've used it approximately 6 or 7 times since purchase. It fell apart and left blades sticking in the apple. I wrangled the blades and foolishly thought the blades could be pushed back into the unit. WRONG! Design idea was great, execution not so much.

Wonderful!
A week ago, my wife and I made applesauce from 25# of Michigan apples. I used our old corer/slicer and was afraid that I would end up slicing my fingers because it didn't cut all the way though and I had to use my fingers to force the slices through the cutter. The next day I went on-line and ordered the "Newness Premium Apple Slicer Corer, Cutter, Divider, Wedger, Stainless Steel Apple Slicer with 8 Sharp Serrated Blades".Yesterday my wife and I again made applesauce. This time from 20 pounds of fresh Michigan apples. What an amazing difference! The newness cutter cut every apple all the way through, no matter the shape or size.I will admit that I was concerned by one of the reviews that said the blade were flimsy, but I didn't find that to be the case with the cutter I received. Blades were strong and not the least bit flexible. The curved blades, along with the included base, ensures that the apples are cut completely through. No more pushing the slices through the cutter with my fingers. I would definitely recommend this cutter. In fact, we plan to buy a couple for our daughters as Christmas gifts.

A good slicer until …. Death of the slicer
This was a good slicer for about 3 months , and then , the slicer died a terrible and dangerous death while slicing a fresh apple ….Not sure I’d recommend this slicer any longer …

Beats the others hands down
I recently purchased a different apple slicer but it was a standard diameter (smaller) and wasn't large enough for most apples. In addition to the apple getting "stuck" 90% of the way through the apple, it also did not slice through the entire apple and I had to pick out the slices risking a cut finger or two. This apple slicer is larger, very sturdy and works exactly as advertised. We are very happy with it. Now, all apples get sliced perfectly and easily.
