This lantern is made of plastic and is very poorly put together with unsuitable materials.
First, the good thing:-It looks pretty, and the glass is real thick glass. Now for the negatives:1. The neoprene ring seal that has to go onto the wall plate is impossible to keep in place when offering up the lantern. In the end, I had to dispense with it and use silicone sealant.2. The metal captive bolts which come through the wall plate for the lantern to bolt onto, are too short. Thankfully, having ditched the neoprene seal, there was enough bolt to just about fix the nuts onto.3. When I realised I had to remove the wall plate to push the captive bolts further through, one of the supplied screws, which were holding the wall plate onto the wall, actually sheered off while I was undoing it. I had to use new steel screws to fix the plate to the wall. The broken piece of screw also blocked the wall-plug, so new holes had to be drilled.4. The top dome is fixed to the flimsy plastic walls of the lantern by pushing it down and twisting so that lugs on the top are captured by bracket in the frame. I do not think it would stand up to a gale, so I repositioned it with the dome actually touching the roof, and that will keep it in place.5. The frame with the glass fixes to the bottom bulb section by twisting slightly so that plastic lugs locate in slots on the bulb section. This is not going to last, once the weather gets at it.All in all, this is the worst thing I have bought on Amazon, and I do buy a lot. It is flimsy plastic, badly designed and I don't think it will last very long.It said in the description "Made From Durable Weather Resistant Black Plastic." but I would disagree with that.I haven't asked for a refund because it is up now and I think it would break if I took it down again.I am going to buy a proper metal unit to replace this because I simply don't trust it. What a waste of money this was.

Flimsy
I bought this because we get severe coastal storms and it is IP44 rated. But it is flimsy. I suppose you get what you pay for. It was to replace an old broken one that got smashed in recent storms. It is on an old wall with exposed stonework. I couldn't afford an expensive replacement and needed one urgently because of the newly exposed electrics to the elements. Because it is all plastic, the plastic base does not sit flush against the stonework and also has a slight wobble. This never happened with the old metal lantern that this one has replaced. I'm guessing it would be fine if installed onto a rendered wall. The two screw threads that hold the front cover to the base are approx 3mm too short to easily get on their protective cover nuts. I have small hands so could grip them OK but the miniscule amount of screw thread available wasn't enough for the first nut to get a bite. After a good 10 minutes full off cursing, my husband managed to grip it with a pair bull nosed pliers as I stood on a second ladder pushing the plastic with all my might to try and expose anothee millimeter of thread. Then we had to do battle all over again with the second nut.The panes are at least glass, and it works. I am, however, not confident it will last the 18 years the previous one did.

Delighted with it
I initially bought one of these to see if it was any good. It is, and I've subsequently bought more. Really easy to install although the internal space for supply wiring isn't the most liberal. The quality is much better than I expected for the price and it looks better than the more expensive metal ones that they are now replacing. The 15W LED bulb that comes with the option I chose is brilliant - really bright and a nice colour that's slightly less warm than the ones they replace but it's nothing like the cold blue- white ones

it works - needs a little care installing
works fineinstalling - supplied 'instructions' a bare minimum- so:care needed when seating the glass to get it straight - it's heavy so probably best to do this after the light is attached to the wall being sure not to strain the fittingtake care not to disturb the backplate seal when fitting the lamp; the retaining screws are too short for ideal so can be a bit fiddly to fix the retaining nutsthe top has retaining lugs and so just needs turning clockwise when engaged to secure - this is when you will notice if the glass is straight or not...[I installed with cabling entry at the bottom; it can be installed with cable entry at top]

Outdoor Wall Light Lantern
Perfect for what it is needed for. Delivered on time. Easy to install. The rawl plugs I had from the previous were at 5cm apart (not all manufacturer mention this detail which is relevant), so I quite lucky as the back plate of the lantern has capability to have them between 5cm(just about) and 6and1/2cm. I plan to get a longer light bulb (7W Led one corresponding to 60W of a regular incandescent light bulb as it is the maximum wattage it can be used) to maximise the reflection (you can see i the pic that there is plenty room) of the light through the TRUE glass. It is plastic hence the price but I highly recommend.Oh, another good feature....from the mounting it can be positioned either way up or down the mounting.I hope it helps

good easy fit lamp but cheap plastic
IP44 plastic is the cheap one like all the B&Q lights made with IP44 rated moulding, they only last a few years before the water gets in and stops working/hence why people are forever returning the IP44 types that let water in even though they say waterproof lol. I now know IP66 is the far better moulding and should last years and years, still a great lamp though, but lesson learned as I will be changing this in a couple of years which I dont need as its already fitted.

Perfect for smart home use
Perfect for what i needed it for. I have a ring doorbell and hue lightbulbs so wanted a non-motion sensing lamp that I could control with Stringify to turn on when the Ring doorbell detected motion and then turned off a couple of minutes later. Only slight downside is the plastic is easily scratched when tightening up the nuts, make sure you put some masking tape on the end of the pliers or socket to avoid scratching the plastic.
