Why the Sky Is Blue: Discovering the Color of Life

This book provides a tremendous overview of the historical background to the science of colour, light and optics in the environment. The physics is well written and understandable with explanatory diagrams to aid the reader. Furthermore the characters involved in the development of the science are well described. One of my favourite science books.
