Hi, Yes, while connected over the Bluetooth intercom, you can each listen to your own music coming from your phone.

Yes you can use it for phone calls only. Thatll be in the settings of your phone. But depends on your phone if it will split and use 2 bluetooth devices.

Q: Does this particular model need subscription to be able to talk?

No subscription needed to use this model. Does Bluetooth connections to other headsets or your phone for music and calls.

Q: will this work with a half hemet?

You can install the Spirit using Cardo half-helmet kit for Freecom/Spirit. You need to ensure the helmet has ear mufflers so the speakers will have their place.
