Mortal Engines Collection Philip Reeve 7 Books Set

Nice work from Philip Reeve
Economy of language for a fast pace, straightforward but coherent plots and short chapters running parallel, all centred around an original idea. As the saying goes, "You always get the best picture on radio" - same with a well-written page! A cogent series so far. I haven't read them all yet, due to work commitments, but they do link. Yes, this is aimed at the young adult reader, but it can appeal those a bit longer in the tooth as a good yarn! Nice work from Philip Reeve. From the trailers, the film release features spectacular CGI, but I the books have it on the detail.

I have meant to read some steampunk books for a couple of years now having read cyberpunk a few years ago. I know these are labelled as 'children's' books but I've found that they quite quickly change and can only really be labelled as such in the same way that some of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett are labelled 'for younger readers'. It more or less just means that there is no swearing in them. My initial interest in these books came after seeing a preview of Mortal Engines being made as a film. I am on the third book at the moment but even as a 46yr old adult find them a brilliant read. This particular box-set is brilliant value as it works out £23 cheaper than buying the books individually. Would definitely recommend to an adult or teenager any time.I have now finished the complete box set of books and would thoroughly recommend them. The Fever Crumb trilogy is easily just as good as the Mortal Engines books and is set five hundred years before.

Mortal Engines - Immortal Quality :)
I've really enjoyed reading this series and am now on the last book of the set of 7 - they are easy to read, pacy and also very clever. I love the way Reeve has subtly linked some of the names and characters and events that occur in the 'Mortal Engines' series back to the prequels of the 'Fever Crumb' series. They are not all sweet and sugary though dealing with real issues and the dark sides of the human nature too.I'm a real fantasy and sci-fi fan and regularly read Pratchett, McCaffery, Robert Jordan, and GRR Martin - this is a new addition to my portfolio now and will happily look for more of his work.

Started reading the first book in school but never got the chance to finish it, ever since it has been in my mind thanks to its extremely unique setting and story. When i saw the trailer for the film to be released, I realised I had to read the books first.I did not realise there were 7 books, but each book to me, is the pinnacle of writing - everything works to build the world in which they are set, and the descriptions are so well done, you could almost believe it to be real.

Great steampunk sci-fi from a great British author
Though supposedly aimed at teenagers these books are a great read even for an oldie like me. Many lost hours spent in the steampunk world. Supposedly the Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has the film rights to this and there’s a teaser of a trailer on YouTube. Cannot wait to see it. If your into sci-if and a great ripping yarn with loads of great characters then I’m sure you will love these books

After coming across a trailer for a new Peter Jackson movie to come out in late 2018 I decided to get the books that the movie is based on. Delivery was well within the stated time and as I was to be laid up for several weeks, this was ideal. I have read the first of the series and though targeting a younger reader, I found it enjoyable with a good take on how humanity may cope after a catastrophic nuclear/biological future war. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I think that the upcoming film may be the next blockbuster in the fantast genre.

death and destruction on huge wheels
Granted: the premise sounds a bit silly, but once you're in, it somehow all makes sense. Reeve writes fast-paced action adventures, set in a weird post-apocalyptic future, laced with quirky fantasy and exciting science fiction elements - the kind of books any child will hungrily devour. For a 10- or 11-year-old, these books are actually quite dark, scary & violent, all the more since Reeve doesn't mind killing off (even main) characters or generating spectacular scenes of destruction. It's all quite epic. Looking forward to the movie(s).This set contains both the Mortal Engines quartet and its prequel, the Fever Crumb trilogy (set some 500 years earlier in the same world).Have to deduct one star for Amazon: the packaging was garbage, so the slipcase and book #7 have a ugly hole/dent right in the middle.

Steampunk Dystopia, love it.
Just started the first book but I'm hooked. Terrific premise. If you're into to steam punk, would be up your alley.

Original and unique stories.
Good box set. Stories and premise of moving cities is really unique and original. They are from scholastic and it shows in the writing. Clearly intended for younger readers. Some true steampunk fans would probably prefer some darker and more mature storylines and character depth but still not a bad read. I would recommend.

Homosexuality is added slowly to the story line avoid! Unless that’s your stuff!
Book started out great then slowly starts to add homosexual content to the story and slowly help your child accepted homosexuality 😳
