Just say no.
There are a LOT of better guitars for the money. These feel even cheaper than they are. Gibson makes Gibsons of course, and for the budget market, they make Epiphones, which are good value. But their Maestro (and Baldwin) guitars aren't much more than firewood. They just contract out to the lowest bidder. For this money, you can buy a Squier Bullet series or a used Affinity series, which ARE respectable student guitars, and less likely to have parts falling off of them within a couple of months.

I bought mine for something to mess around with. The amp that came with it was absolute junk, as are most cheap amps. I really wouldn't recommend it, especially at the price Amazon is selling it at, because there are so many better guitars for the same money. I paid $100 for mine at a clearance table in a music store. Not much you can do with a single humbucker pickup. I put some Fender strings on it and it sounds OK. It is not the worst guitar ever as one review stated, but you could do way better for the same $$$.

Good beginner set up so far
My husband hasn't played guitar in about 20 years and wanted an inexpensive electric guitar to start playing again. I chose this one for him.A lot of the electric guitars in the price range he was willing to spend or have me spend were too small for him to be comfortable using. He wanted something that felt substantial and had good sound. This fit his needs perfectly. The strings will probably need to be replaced with better quality strings, and the amp will absolutely need to be replaced at some point, but for the price, it's a great starter guitar with a nice sound. The instructional dvd helped him a lot. Like I said, he's not brand new to playing, but it's been enough years he needed the refresher. It's very step by step, explaining the parts of the guitar and going through the beginning stages step by step in detail. I do recommend getting an inexpensive electronic tuner if you're not sure you can tune by ear. He's very happy with it, and so am I because step by step upgrades to his equipment mean I don't have to think too hard about future presents for him!

Great beginners guitar but...
Definitely not one I would suggest for someone who is already into music. I would also say that it is good only for personal use, and not for playing with a band... well at least not with a big amp with other instruments. I have tried but the one humbucker just doesn't do it for me. We had to turn the amp almost all the way up just for me to be heard. But to play by myself with my smaller, one channel amp it works fine. It may not have the best sound but apart from that this is an awesome guitar!
