No quality check it seems
The helicopter came well packaged and looked fine, but as it turns out it had two defects:The first thing I did was charging the battery, as instructed, and after an hour or so the charging light on the charger stopped blinking and turned off instead of staying on solid which would indicate that the charging cycle is complete.I tried powering the helicopter and it ran for 5 seconds then shut off, meaning the battery is too low.I put it back on the charger until the light went off at least 4 times but even 6 hours later it didn't hold a charge.Luckily I have a spare battery so I was able to verify that the charger itself is working fine.So I swapped the batteries (which was a pain as the original one was secured with double-sided tape) and once powered the tail rotor stopped spinning as soon as I dropped the throttle and never came back on. The motor was jammed somehow and manually turning the prop didn't help.Having waited decades to fly my first RC helicopter I didn't feel like shipping it back and waiting for a replacement so I took it apart and fixed it myself. Now you know what to expect :-/I haven't really flown it yet, merely hovered a little as I need to learn how to control it properly so that I don't crash it, or at least not right away ;-)

Don't Believe The Skeptics
This is my second Heli, the first was the DH 9100, the little brother to the 9104. I bought the 9104 even after reading all the negative reviews and am not regreting my decision. With a little tweeking based on help on YouTube and a couple forums, I had this monster up and flying in no time. I have had a few low level crashes with no damage sustained, so the bird is rugged. I have several really good flights too so I am happy. I actually think the 9104 is more flyable than the 9100. If you think these birds are truly Ready To Fly (RTF) out of the box, you need to slow down and rethink that. Any RC craft needs to be tuned and tweeked before they are 100%, so if you still want the 9104, or any RC Heli, do your research first, study the forums and the videos. Then when you get the Heli out of the box, look it over carefully, check that everything is connected, and follow the instructions as best as you can. I don't recommend this to first time Heli Pilots, but if you've had a couple of flying hours on other heli's you should find the 9104 a decent aircraft to fly.

Fun to fly, but electric tail motor burned out very quickly.
I am editing my review because of some serious defects. After a handful of flights I noticed it would spin out of control to the left with anymore than 75% power. It would only turn right with full trim and adjustment and if the throttle was reduced substantially, in which case, the helicopter could not hold altitude. Some research showed that the tail rotor motors burn out extremely quickly. Most people said with regular use, they were replacing 1 tail unit every two months. This really is the only issue. A very disappointing one at that.I love this thing! It flies very well and is fairly controllable even in a little bit of wind. It took me a little bit of practice and a few times of getting it out of a few bushes before I got the hang of it, but I had a good feel for it after the 3rd or 4th charge. It seems to be very durable, but not indestructible. One thing to note is that it is much more difficult to fly this one than it is to fly the coaxial version, but it does seem to have more control. It will go pretty quick, too.

Wish I Knew
I'd like to be able to write a proper review on this helicopter but I can't. Right out of the box the transmitter didn't work. The problem wasn't with the batteries or their connections. The transmitter was just plain dead. Very disappointed, I returned the product. After watching YouTube videos of this DH 9104 I was really looking forward to flying it. Unlike the DH 9101, it appears to be able to fly forward and at a good clip!Regardless of which model helicopter you decide to buy, be prepared to buy and replace nearly every part on it; rotor blades, rotor buckle, balance bar, canopy, electronics board, chassis, etc. The parts are all inexpensive and can be ordered over the Internet and most arrive within 1 to 2 weeks. Also, check YouTube for cheap modifications and how to do repairs (i.e. no-solder circuit board replacement).Hopefully you live where there are days with NO wind... not a little wind... NO WIND... or you have an empty warehouse or gymnasium you can fly it in. And, trees love these helicopters more than Charlie Brown's tree loves kites!

Have a few problems with this Heli
This is my second 9104, my first one while I was flying caught a wind gust and took it up to about 100 feet and over some trees about 300 feet from me very fast, I shut it down, saw it fall into the trees, went looking for it and could not find it,more than likley in the trees. Ordered another one that night. Had a windstorm 50 mph about 5 days later, went back to the site and found it, rather demolished, rebuild it and flying again. Received my second one and took it out for my first flight, after about 15 seconds it shut down and dropped to the ground. tried again and the same problem. Found the problem to be the on - off switch on the transmitter when in the (on) position the red light would blink. Took off the slide cap on the switch and found the slide hitting the top of the cutout in the transmitter case. Removed the PC board from the transmitter and filed the opening in the case larger. That worked fine. After a few flights I was having the drop out again, but not with the on-off switch light flickering. I checked the receiver pc board, could'nt find anyy bad solder joints. So to make it a faster trouble shooting repair, I ordered a new pc board 49Mhz same as my older 9104, the new one is a 27Mhz, this way I will use my transmitter from my old one. Just in case it is the new transmitter.
