I'm super curious about Catholicism because it is one of the most ancient parts of Christianity and "closer to the source" historically. I find so many of the parts of the Catholic faith which conflict with my Protestant upbringing to be enlightening and fascinatingly fresh. Mariology has been one of those interesting conflict spots. I was really looking forward to reading this book and seeing what new information and evidence it offered me for the Catholic perspective on Mary. I was so disappointed! The author does use scripture and sources but they all feel pretty darn weak to me. The supports for the Immaculate Conception feel absurd and ridiculous. The claims about her permanent virginity and perfectly intact hymen even through a birth seem ridiculous and unneeded. I hate it when Christianity used logic to go absurdly far down a path but I really hate it when they abandon logic in the pursuit of a wild side path. Argh. I'll keep looking for more information on the church positions on Mary besides the claims this author gives which mostly amount to "Pope so-and-so said so" and the writings of various church leaders delineating that Mary was like this or that. The one thing I did find cool was his assertion that just by avoiding the biological and relational reality that Mary was Jesus actual mom, we are missing something. She is the Mother of God, she kissed his knees and taught him manners and was his comfort and solid rock through childhood. That's kind of mindblowing!

Very good.
Very good basic little book to illuminate and present the Biblical (and Tradition) basis for and the grace of Marian devotion. Faithful to Catholic teaching about Mary, it addresses well the common misconceptions that average unchurched/uninformed non-believers, non-Christians, Protestant Christians and many Catholics may have about Mary, the Mother of God. Some of the "folksy" writing style didn't appeal to me, but on the other hand, it may just right for those who want a down-to-earth introductory but complete book about Mary.

Truly Meet Mary
Miravalle outlines many details about Mary's role in Salvation History. He relays the teachings of Mary from the early church fathers. St. Jerome says, "Death through Eve, life through Mary." Easy to follow, this is a great overview of Mary's place in Christianity. Biblical notations are included as well as Marian prayers. I highly recommend this book.

Love it!
This is wonderful book. The writer wrote well to show us who our Blessed Mother truly is. Her love for her son, Jesus and for all of us as we are her children too.
