Needed this 10 years ago!
I bought this for my 15 inch 2015 MPB I picked up from Ebay with no internal drive. I Installed a 128 GB drive from a previous upgrade from another Mac but needed something quick until I purchased another drive. I had several micro sd cards that I never use and decided to get this adapter. Put a 128 GB micro in this adapter and formatted it to apfs. So far it works great and it hasn't unmounted itself at all. It also fits my 14 inch 2021 Macbook Pro but sticks out just a little. It fits flush in my 2015 MBP.

Perfect depth and works great in Acer Chromebook 15
I have an Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S and just received this adapter. It works VERY nicely in my Chromebook. I verified before opening the package that this adapter was the right size and the right pin layout (it is perfect in both respects). I suspected and now have confirmed for myself the reason the adapter may not sit evenly in the slot as reported by another reviewer here. The slot in the Acer Chromebook is not EXACTLY the same shape at each end as this adapter is at the ends of the aluminum end cap, not quite as rounded. The result is that the adapter "wings" don't fit all the way in easily. You can do one of 2 things to fix: either trim the ends of the slot opening to be more rounded or fitted to the adapter, or gently file the aluminum "wings" just a little to fit the slot (what I did). Then it will fit perfectly. I know this will void any warranty on the item but I verified it is working before doing anything and test fitted many many times to ensure not to remove too much. There are still "wings" sticking out on each end of the adapter, just not quite as much as original. This adapter now fits perfectly even and flush in my Chromebook slot. OK, maybe not perfectly since there is a curve to the underside of the Acer that doesn't match the adapter perfectly but I really have to try to even feel it when I run my finger along the side of the Chromebook. I use a SanDisk Ultra 128GB micro SDXC card in the adapter and can now just leave it in there all the time. The finger nail slot works as advertised to remove it if that should ever need to be done.

Works great with a little help.
First off, I tried several other types of MicroSD card adapters but none gave me much confidence either by way of build quality, performance or both. I spent the extra money on this adapter because I was at my wits end with the other four or five I had tried. As far as this adapter goes, the build quality is great, it fits perfectly, looks like it belongs where it is and is easy to remove when necessary. I am using a SanDisk 200GB MicroSD card and have had no performance issues.I use the drive to hold my iTunes library (north of 100GB) and some other media files and haven't had any troubles with the adapter. I have experienced slow downs with data transfer rates (attributed to the MicroSD card itself) but I benchmarked my MicroSD card with a USB adapter and a couple other SD card adapters including the BaseQi adapter and saw no performance impact using the BaseQi adapter versus the others. One thing I did notice that I determined to be attributed to Mac OS X and not the adapter is that the drive mould rarely remount after my computer woke up from any length of being asleep. After a bit of Google-Fu and testing other standard SD card adapters, I came to the conclusion that Mac OS X (I'm on 10.11.5 right now) is fickle about remounting SD cards after awaking from a sleep period regardless if you use the Power Nap feature or not. My solution that has worked out exceptionally well is to use an application called Jettison to remount the SD card after awaking from sleep.

Slick, useful and completely out of sight!!
This product is great! Once you install it, you'll forget that it is even there. Fits perfectly flush and you won't have to worry about it. You can use it with any MicroSD cardPro Tip: Do yourself a favor and get the highest capacity you can get and make sure it is at least SDXC, so you can get faster transfer rates. It is still going to be pretty slow compared to HD/SSD transfer rates, but it will be faster than other SD cards.

BRILLIANT solution for more internal storage!
4.5 Stars! What a BRILLIANT and easy way to add 2TB of storage to my MacBook Pro! Now, please note that the SD card reader in your mac is NOT super fast, but it’s fast enough. If memory serves me correctly, with a fast SanDisk card, I get close to 90-100MB per sec, which is fine for general file storage to keep my internal SSD free for the heavy-lifting. Only complaints are that once it’s in snugly, it’s hard to get out, and I have to use a small flat head screwdriver, as my fingernails just can’t do it. The other complaint goes hand in hand with this, but isn’t a problem of this unit, but more so the Mac, as sometimes the card doesn’t mount, and needs to be pulled out and put back in for the computer to see it. I know this is a Mac issue (at least with my machine, but likely others as well) because this happens with regular SD cards. So you’ll want to keep something handy to pry it open when you need to. I don’t have to do it often, which is good. I highly recommend this, and the only issue is the price of high capacity Micro SD cards. But still WAY cheaper than Apple’s tax on internal SSD storage!

It just works, looks like it was built by Apple.
Update: There seem to be a lot of questions about if it will fit in a given model. I've included pictures with measurements, so you can see exactly how big it is. If you stick a standard SD card in your laptop, measure how far it sticks out. If it is less than 14mm, this will not work for you at all. If it's exactly 14mm, you're golden. If it is more than 14mm, this will work, but stick out a little.I bought one of the cheap knock offs, and it was always flaky. I would have to fiddle with it each time I put it in to get it to work. This one just works. Fits perfectly in my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013). No fiddling with it, it just works.I keep all my personal files on a 128GB card in my work computer with this. If I have to switch machines for some reason, no big deal, just pop this out and into the new machine. It is awesome to not rebuild my iTunes library each time I switch machines or jobs.
