The One-Day Contract: How to Add Value to Every Minute of Your Life

Excellent motivational book
Pros: The book is an easy read. It's well organized and delivered with some personal stories and behind the scenes access - spanning Coach Pitino's entire illustrious career (from BU to Louisville). It offers some unique tips on adding value to your life (i.e. humility, focus, organization). In particular, I found the 'Trap of Technology' chapter to be super insightful. I think this chapter alone should be required reading for everyone who wants to succeed in life, beyond becoming Twitter star. Also the principle of making your career/job as your 'season' is especially inspiring. Pitino writes (in my words): Would we expect Tom Brady to be tweeting on the sidelines during a game? Of course not. Then we shouldn't be surfing the web when it's our game-time - whether that is as a stock broker or a network engineer or parenting. Do your job. And stay focused. Go online in your off time and use it as a 'Meaningful Distraction,' (Chapter 8))... Finally, the price was right. I purchased it for only 11 bucks on my Kindle. Real. Good. Deal!Cons: The non-stop adoration of Bill and Hillary Clinton was a bit tough to take for a right-leaning reader who expected an apolitical self-help book (e.g. Hillary Clinton was a "highly successful Secretary of State.") I guess if you don't count Benghazi & the Middle East becoming even more of a hellhole. Yes, she was super "successful." To use one of Pitino's terms in the book, it was a unneeded distraction. It seemed like every chapter name dropped a Clinton. To provide credence to some of his principles, he could have easily used more apolitical, (far) less polarizing examples. Also, I found some of the other supporting examples to be a bit anecdotal and/or outlandish. Like the idea that one of the richest coaches in all of sports "saved up" for his annual vacation to California? Come on, now!.. And my final critique: I thought the 'One-Day Contract' chapter to be on the disappointing side. This was the title of the book, and it came off like a to-do list written by a motivational speaker. Which is basically what it is. Example (using my words, again): 8:00am: Meet with assistant coaches. Be nice to them. Make it a great meeting. Create positive vibe...Overall: Certainly worth the investment for around 15 bucks or even cheaper for Kindle. Chapter Two (2) alone is worth the price of purchase. You will get some great life/career advice (e.g. How good would you be at your career if you swapped the time you spent on Twitter and social media with efforts to better your career/trade?). And if you are a college basketball fan (I am not), you will get even more out of it via an inside look at the 2013 NCAA Championship season of the Louisville Cardinals. It won't disappoint.

Rick Pitino at his Best .........no other motivational book required!!!
This is one of the best motivational and inspirational book i have ever read. A learning experience to gain from Celebrated Coach Rick Pitino who is the head coach of University of Louisville NBA. . He inherited it when things were really not moving and required a corrective measures to bring the team back on track. Today it is the top 3 NBA basketball team in USA. Pitino holds the distinction of being the only men's coach in NCAA history to lead three different schools (Providence, Kentucky, and Louisville). In his book ‘ One Day Contact’ Rick Pitino talk’s about how for one day you will be part of his team and perform as an athlete. What does it take to bring your best and full potential to the game everyday. How cynicism, been moody, entitlement, technology, humiliation and parents acts as a barrier for success .How can you overcome it and unleash your full potential to climb up the corporate ladder by been a Step Change Thinker, a Know How Builder and Action Driver. Thanks Rick to add Value to my life ........and making me truly live on 'One Day Contract' CheersRegardsRyan

and I have enjoyed this as much as his first book
This is my second Coach Pitino book, and I have enjoyed this as much as his first book, "Success is a Choice". It's an easy read, with good, fundamental advice. I'm married with kids, and life is very complicated. It's easy to forget about the basics of success, and that's what I love about this book. It really cuts out the "noise" that we experience in today's high tech life and has practical, common sense suggestions about how to handle adversity, as well as everyday advice about success. I appreciate Pitino's honesty about his own mistakes, and I would recommend this book to anybody looking to make themselves a better, more successful, more productive person.

Solid read, but..
Like most College Hoops fans, I fell in love with last year's Louisville team led by Coach Pitino. Usually, a season like that will generate a book like this. Coach Pitino addresses some key points in being a good leader, worker and overall person by viewing the way you go about your business like it's your last. The stories do get a bit redundant, and I didn't care for how the chapters were set up, but overall it was a good read. The chapter on social media is worth the price of the book.

Two birds with one stone
Wanted to buy this book for myself but decided to buy it for my husband as a Christmas present, hoping he would enjoy it too. He's been reading it every afternoon since Christmas and nearly finished with it and loves the book. A friend of mine had already read it and she recommended it so I'm looking forward to reading it and I'm sure I'll love it too. Read another one of his books YEARS ago, "Success is a Choice" and still utilizing some of his suggestions from that book. Think what you want of him, but Pitino is great at inspiring people to be better.

Excellent Self Help Guide
Pitino talks candidly about how he has made it through difficult times in his personal life. I have taken his advice on trying not to let technology control my life in an unproductive way. His insights into self motivation and the motivation of others is inspiring. As a basketball fan, hearing him discuss his run to the championship and his interactions with the players was insightful. If you've read or liked his previous books, you will enjoy this one. I bought my copies at his NYC book signing. He was most gracious with his time with all of us in line.
