The Crown and the Fire: Meditations on the Cross and the Life of the Spirit

His points about joining in the Labor pangs of Christ for the healing of Creation were enlightening. It was moving and informative.

N. T. Write does a masterful job of painting the historic scene in each chapter. We get to peer into Jesus' life and mission and crucifixion through numerous lenses. With each chapter I think, "that was so good" and then the next chapter is every bit as good. As I read, the Holy Spirit burns within me as Jesus, the Messiah King, is exalted in all of his cruciform love.

I was looking for a good book on the cross for this Easter season and this book was one of three that definitely not only made the case for the Incarnate Christ but did it eloquently and beautifully. I recommend this book if you are looking for ways to increase your understanding of the core principle of the cross as the vehicle for the divine redemption of mankind.

Overall, I found the book inspiring. The message was clear and simple. However, the author tends to have run on sentences and verbosity. Not what I would consider a devotional. At times I found it laborious to get through

As usually, Wright writes in clear prose, deeply immersed in the entire scriptures. He clearly believes that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are historical facts and of immense importance to the entire world. This is a compilation of meditations, lectures, and sermons which call the church to root herself deeply in these realities and reminds Christians that they are called to a distinctive life which emerges from Jesus' suffering and heads towards his glory.

N. T. Wright deepens the conversation again!

I agree that this is not a book to be read and put away. This require thought and meditation. I have liked N. T. Wright's other books, but this one exceeds them.

This book takes the centrepiece of history (Christ's deaths and resurrection) and helps us see our role in God's story of salvation. Much needed in our times when cynicism and skepticism can all too easily set in. A good dose of the gospel is the remedy.

Thank you Tom Wright for the hard work of scholarship, and for taking care & time to put into words the truths you have gleaned. At times I could only read a little and had to stop to re-read, reflect, ponder and inwardly digest deep truths & new insights that are life-changing.
