Love These Arrangements!
I'm actually an oboist, not a flutist, but since there are very few good arrangements of Christmas arrangements out there for oboists we have to make do with flute and violin books. The range in this book was mostly suitable for oboe without any modifications, and the highest parts are still possible for a skilled oboist. I did take a few sections down an octave for ease of playing and tuning purposes. So many of the arrangements are beautiful--my favorites are We Three Kings, What Child is This/Coventry Carol, and Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming. I do wish that Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring wasn't included in this book, since it really isn't a Christmas song and there are several other songs that could have been used instead. The arrangements of the Deck the Halls Variations and the Christmas Carol Suite are a lot of fun, with a few different styles and a jazz waltz section in each. My accompanist was impressed that in several of the arrangements, you can't tell what song it's going to be until the oboe (flute) comes in.I play at an advanced level, and some of the slower songs were pretty easy, but a few songs took a bit of work. I love having a Christmas book that I can't sight read perfectly! I was hoping to use this book for one of my students, but it's a little beyond his level for now--maybe next year. It's nice to have good quality accompaniments on the CD, as well as the written piano accompaniment. I will be using both, with a live accompanist at church and the recorded accompaniment at a nursing home. I do wish that the demo tracks included full songs instead of the first minute or so of each one--it would be better for late intermediate/advanced students, and there were even a couple of places where I've had trouble getting my part to fit with the accompaniment.EDIT 12/25/13: I played a couple of these last night and one of the comments I got was, "Your playing adds so much to the piano." In my mind, that's proof that even non-musicians can tell that the piano and flute (oboe) parts are equally important instead of an oboe feature with piano background. I also recorded some of them and put them on Youtube--you can find them if you search for musicaholic440.

My favorite Christmas solo book
Great arrangements. You'll need a skilled pianist. The CD of the accompaniment is really helpful for practicing.

Nice, actually!
To those people saying there’s no flute part-if I remember, as I’ve had it for a while-the flute part is attached -embedded in the piano part. Just need to carefully pull it out and bend staples back. These sound better than they look -the flute part looks kind of sparse-the piano carries it a lot. It took me a while to get around to actually trying them with CD. The piano part is played passionately -and I liked them just as well as the Joel Raney Flute Stylings Christmas. The arrangements are long -but if playing background music -that definitely fits the bill. I wouldn’t recommend sight reading them on a job... (I’m a professional flutist) -glad I didn’t! there are some tricky counting parts and it’s good to have time to watch the piano score in some of those places (especially Jesu)... nice to have some rests so piano can shine (and we can rest!).it was a nice surprise to finally play them and like them so well. Some passages are super fast even for an intermediate player if using tracks.

No flute part??
The Christmas arrangements in this book are beautiful moderately difficult familiar Christmas selections. Very nice piano accompaniment. However in the copy I purchased there was NO pull-out flute part!!! I even contacted Hal Leonard, the publisher. They were unable to provide a flute part since it was purchased through Amazon. I returned it for a full refund and ended up ordering it through Senseney Music in Wichita (with plenty of postage!)

Very Pleased
Lovely duets, for intermediate players. I enjoyed listening them on you-tube which helped me learn the songs faster; that's always a bonus. Thank you!

Challenging flute music with classy piano accompaniment.
My flute background is 16 years of playing for church orchestra, and some weddings. I would consider myself advanced intermediate...certainly not pro. I bought this to play background Christmas music for a function my church group was doing. This ended up perfect! The flute part is just challenging enough to be enjoyable, and not so easy it sounds like a 7th grade band concert. The accompaniment is all piano, which worked great for this particular occassion where I was "background" for a dinner gathering.I'm happy with this purchase.

I love this music
I love this music! I have played flute for many years and I find these pieces challenging and beautiful. I love there is a CD accompaniment. The piano player at my church does not feel comfortable accompanying people and the CD alloys me to in church still. I do wish the excerpts were a little longer, but I was able to find the songs on youtube for some of the tricky parts that I wasn't sure about if I was getting it quite right.

Great Arrangement
I was looking for something that isn't so "easy" but sounds good rather. I have a daughter who's an intermediate flutist and a son who's quite accomplished in piano. I was looking for something challenging for my daughter and not too easy for my son and this is it. And the arrangements sound great.

Lovely music but when I bought this with the CD ...
Lovely music but when I bought this with the CD I anticipated that I could listen to the music to help me with tricky bits of timing. Unfortunately only the first half of the track is on the demo.
