Try not to be turned off by the sexuality.
This is my favorite of the God father series. As far as the sex, well these things happen. Keep in mind the broader message of the movie. Every time I watch this movie it seems different. It had a tragic ending but these things happen to. One of the quotes of the God Father was he did his best to protect his family from the horrors of this world. Sometimes the world does seem horrible, unfair, unjust. The ending seemed horrible, unfair, unjust, so he did his best and it just didn't work out. Which seems the case for a lot of us.

"Now they'll fear you, Michael."
The much maligned third installment of the Godfather saga is actually a very good movie. Sofia Coppola can't act, Tom Hagen is sorely missed though I like how the Connie Corleone character has progressed and the massacre in Atlantic City are significant flaws but the film is still an intense final look into the character of Michael Corleone and it had to be done to make his story complete.

Story pales in comparison to 1st 2 in the Godfather series
I remember seeing this when it came out in a movie theater and being extremely disappointed. Re-watching it years later it wasn’t bad, but it just paled in comparison to the first two movies in the series. Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo wrote all three films but it appeared they ran out of ideas by this time. Here’s the gist of the problem. The Catholic Church was in financial trouble and Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) wanted a piece of a company that the Church was part owner of. While he’s doing that he takes on his nephew Vincent played by Andy Garcia who is a hotheaded gangster. The idea is that Corleone is now a multi-millionaire businessman but he needs a thug with him? C’mon. This of course leads to the conflict in the story as Vincent has a grudge against another mafia boss and Michael gets dragged in the middle. More than that there were none of the complicated plots and twists as in the first two movies. To top it off the movie ends with an opera tragedy and tries to link that to the Corleone family. Overdone and just a huge letdown.

Doesn't feel like the earlier two movies
It doesn't have the "feel" of parts 1 & 2, which were masterpieces. Why was a role not made for Tom (Robert Duvall)? It's a letdown from the other two parts but I expected it. I wish I'd have spent a little more money and got the collector's edition of all three, I'd have the special features of the first two plus this movie. The one bright spot is that Dianne Keaton is a better actress in this movie than the other two.

underrated!
while it aint 1 or 2 GF pt III is a must see if you're a fan of the first two. yes, sofia coppola's performance is tortured and pacino's michael didn't age well but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.it's actually better the 2nd time you watch it.

... movie is not a farce of two of the best movies ever made - GF1 & 2
It is impossible to believe that this movie is not a farce of two of the best movies ever made - GF1 & 2. I saw this movie when it originally came out and thought it was terrible. After re-watching, I realize that it is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen, such a shame. The plot is bad and the acting is worse. Do not read further as remainder contains a spoiler... At the end of this mess - I was happy that the daughter was shot - at least we were all put out of our misery. Do yourself a favor and watch the first two and never, ever watch this pathetic excuse for a film.

Its The Godfather, need I say more
Some consider this 3rd in the series to be just a moneymaker for the film, but it ties up some loose ends and has some great eye candy, Andy Garcia in his early 30's as a surprise character. Why some people hate on this last in the series is not understandable.Loved all 3!

Essential to The Classical Tragedy of Michael Corleone
While not liked by the general public, GF3 is the final necessary chapter which truly paints Michael Corleone as the one true and undisputable Aristotelian tragic hero of the American Mob film genre. If nothing else, Al Pacino's heartwrenching, visceral, genuine screams of agony are a moving conclusion to a fantastic crime drama series. Striving so hard to be like his father, consumed by his hubris and failure to realize it until it is too late; this is the tragic flaw that brings Michael to his lowest point and what ultimately makes The Godfather Trilogy a classical tragedy. The bill always comes due; as the theatrical film poster states:"All the power on Earth can't change destiny."

A fine conclusion to a magnum opus..
However, I do often wonder what could have been, ie If the studio had not interfered in FFC's vision for the movie.. I actually prefer the title of 'The Death Of Michael Corleone' as Coppola initially wanted, but the studio refused, and insisted on calling it Part 3. I personally would have liked a part 3 set in the 60's, then this one to conclude..Perhaps Sofia Coppola was the wrong choice for Mary Corleone [no matter, she was sadly and cruely subjected to alot of pressure from producers, studio staff and the media], but I think it depends how you look at her character overall, within the movie (a nervous, introvert 18yr old girl, not accustomed to the world of her father etc) and analyse the story in toto, perhaps on reflection she played the character better than most of us inititally thought. Anyway, Part 3 is such a good story overall, any occasional shortcoming can be disregarded, and the penultimate scene always brings a tear no matter how many times I've seen it.. It's Shakespearean in it's Tragedy.

Go on you know you want to
cannot really say anything about the Godfather III, its not the best of the franchise but it is still better than most movies. All the best story lines are in Parts 1 & 2 but it still grips you when your watch it. Its the poor cousin but still worth a watch, especially if you have invested 6 hours of our life watching the first two, you owe it to yourself to finish the job.
