Magnum opus on the history of Azad Kashmir.
This book unequivocally qualifies to be a magnum opus on the history of Azad Kashmir- a region which played a significant role in instigating the anti-Dogra movement yet became a victim of post-partition amnesia as it gets achingly ignored in the subsequent discourses on the Kashmir question.

Not an unbiased story.
A reader of this book may surprise why like many other books written about Kashmir did not postulated a possible suggestions to be acceptable for moreover all stakeholders as far as Kashmir problem is concerned. Mr. Snedden may be a reputed journalist but he tried to establish the Pakistani point of view that Kashmir should be made an intregal part of it in the name of physigraphic proximity. But the question is what harm will be the possible outcome if Kashmir with it present boundaries stands with India like other Indian States? There are many Islamic States. Do everywhere fulfilled all the humanitarian aspirations of all citizens ? So rather deescalation one should not promote the Islamic seperatism in the guise of aspirations ,georaphy, culture( barring pandits),history, ethnicity etc.Mr.Snedden also tried to propagate this. But he wrote the book with some research. Therefore I would like to suggest to read this book in an unbiased mindset.

ONE SIDED VIEW
The author appears to be biased on the subject. He has given a one sided account (Pakistan's view dominated by Sunni Muslims of a few districts of Kashmir Valley) of an issue in which India as well as residents of Jammu, Laddak & Gilgit-Baltistan, Hill-tribesmen and Shia Muslims of Kashmir have also important stakes. Their views have been ignored and given no place in the book. The author's research has also been limited to the records/transcripts/documents available in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. No visible effort has been made to cross-check/verify/interpolate with the information/data/records/transcripts/documents available with India or the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
