The New York Times Acrostic Puzzles Volume 10: 50 Engaging Acrostics from the Pages of The New York Times

A challenging, but solvable set of acrostic puzzles
The 50 puzzles in this volume are all challenging but at the same time, are solvable with patience and perseverance. I could do without the one non-acrostic puzzle in the volume.

Disappointed!
I love acrostics (or the formerly named double crostics) and these are a travesty of books I purchased in the past. Firstly, they are made up of phony quotations. Instead of smooth complete paragraphs, the quotes are bunches of short phrases connected with "...". The creators were too lazy to find actual quotes so they make them up. Secondly, there are too many mistakes. Letters in the puzzle often have the wrong designations.Thirdly, there are some themed puzzles which are just odd - one puzzle had a theme relating to printing. It had clues like "type styles" or "font names" . Fourthly, my main enjoyment in doing these puzzles is working back from the quote to the clues. I love looking at the quote and figuring out the words by their placement and the number of letters in each.group. But...because of the fractured quotes, the syntax is abnormal. Finally, there are too many difficult clue words. By that, I mean words that the average educated person would STILL not know - I.e. names of authors of obscure works, names of chemicals or species, answers that don't REALLY fit the clue.and more. Some of these are to be expected, but too many paralyze the solving challenge.

Getting more difficult to find
Anacrostics are less and less carried by bookstores. Great to have a place to get them, particularly the more than challenging New York Times version

These are wonderful
These are my favorite puzzles. This is the second one I've purchased I liked the first one so much. They are spiral bound which makes it so easy to work where a regular puzzle magazine you have to fold over if you are working in a car or doctors office of a dozen other places I carry these to. Will continue to buy until I've purchased them all.

It'll send you to the internet looking up subjects you never thought of investigating
I love acrostics, and these are pretty good, I've found a couple of mistakes, just typos (letter in solution labeled incorrectly as far as which clue it refers to, but you just have to look around for where the same number has been used twice in the clues)All in all, I have been enjoying these acrostics because solving them has introduced me to subject matter and authors I might never have explored otherwise.

Really difficult
Unless you are a genius or you don't mind cheating these are just too hard for the average person.
