chock full of nuggets
I absolutely love this book. I'd read it before while at the After Death Conference in Scottsdale AZ and did a small workshop with co-author Jane Katra in which she shared her incredibly wrenching and also fantastic life-story. At this type of gathering I usually don't socialize much, but it was a great conference for meeting and talking with speaker/authors intimately.Reading it the second time around reading was just eye-popping. How did I forget all this? It's a very scientific book re: ESP(they call PSI) with numerous experimental studies. I skipped most of the material on remote viewing because I think it is a difficult, specialized skill; but I skipped on to the parts on energetic, psychic and spiritual healing. There is one thing I have to check back. Did the subject of psychokinesis who almost strangled know what he was supposed to be receiving? Well, I think he knew something was coming because there were doctors present, but was quite surprised as all the transmissions, before this scary one, had been so much more pleasant. I do have to wonder why they did that.

Cool book and content
This book has great information in it. I'm still not sure that there's no confirmation bias in it because the CIA claims that they got nothing useful from the remote viewing sessions yet did it for like 20 years. That doesn't jive, but that's their claim. They also say that the information was too vague so they didn't find it useful. Targ claims the opposite. I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

got nothing out of the book
half the book is about ESP studies, could have been reduced to a small chapter. The book fell short of my expectations of anecdotal experiences.

A wonderful tribute to the powers of the mind
This hybrid work covers the phenomenon of spiritual healing from both a scientific (Rusell's) and a personal/subjective (Katra's) experience. The scientific part of the book will not convince anyone who is still in denial about the existence of psi phenomena, as it doesn't discuss hard statistical data and parapsychological methodology. If that is what you are looking for, read Radin's "The Conscious Universe" instead. However, for the reader who has accepted the reality of psi phenomena, but wants to learn more, it gives a good introduction to the recent history of parapsychological research, and to what this research has taught us about the factors that affect psi performance. For me however, the highlight of the book is Katra's part. Her deeply personal, moving account of healing people through spiritual means has an immensely uplifting quality, and it is because of that that I particularly recommended this book to people who are suffering from a chronic illness. This might help them to keep up hope, or to regain it if lost.
