great book just what quilters need its one of the books you go back to time and time again and it fits all your projects

This is a super book and has served the purpose well. The quilt took 10 months to complete but the overall instruction was excellent.

If you can get over the 70s/80s colour scheme this is a good book for a beginner at applique. None are too difficult and you would end up with a lovely quilt. For the more advanced reader, then it works for using the shapes in your own designs. Can you imagine these blocks in traditional red and green or Kaffe Fasset prints?

When I read of this quilter's passing earlier this year, I immediately placed an order for this book that might not be available soon. I am an experienced hand and machine appliqué quilter.The book begins with "Quiltmaking Basics" - supplies, fabric suggestions, rotary cutting, pressing, appliqué, and embroidery. Next are instructions for this specific quilt as well as lay-out instructions and a suggestion for a 12-block variation. Concluding are suggestions for "Quilt Finishing" - squaring up blocks, borders, marking quilting lines, layering, hand or machine quilting, binding, and signing. The remainder of book is devoted to patterns, gallery of different colorways, and biography.For me, I have found that most appliqué books either have designs too complicated (do-able but far too time-consuming), far too simple, some unusable block designs, or visually unbalanced designs. This book (again, for me) is just perfect. All of the designs are useable, they are balanced (flowers-leaves-stems proportionate), not too complicated to overwhelm the viewer (or the quilter), and just intricate enough to keep me challenged. The patterns are 1/4 of the design which means copying and pasting the full design together, but the cutting lines are clearly marked and line up. The patterns themselves are clear.This book will be my all-time favorite in my appliqué library and possibly my entire library. I copied the patterns onto template plastic in anticipation of making several variations of this quilt...
