howdy y'all,*****update 2011-01-06, Thursdaythe stuff i got is the item i refer to in the review as the OLD version. apparently the data shown by amazon is actually the out-of-date info and the newer info is what i called OLD. [*grin*]very good & well worth a FOUR.*****i rate this [based on the previous version] a FOUR.the previous version ["You purchased this item on July 6, 2010"] of this was really _quite_ good. this stuff is lovely on sandwiches, scrambled eggs, baked potatoes, mac-n-cheese and most anything that you like with bacon on it. that's most anything for me. [*grin*]i came here to buy some more and now i'm hesitating. why? cuz ...old - no mention of "picnic bacon" on labelnew - "with picnic bacon"what is picnic bacon? from google = "Picnic bacon is from the picnic cut, which includes the shoulder beneath the blade. It is fairly lean, but tougher than most pork cuts."old - no mention of smoke flavoringnew - "smoke flavoring added"often, to me, smoke flavoring tastes sweetish. i don't care for sweet bacon.old - "50% less fat than USDA data for pan-fried bacon"new - "30% less fat than USDA data for pan-fried bacon"more fat? does that mean more flavor or more of the [very rare in the old package] lumps of pure fat that are so ... revolting when bitten into?old - "Fat content has been lowered from 3 g to 1.5 g per serving"new - "Fat content has been lowered from 3 g to 2 g per serving"more fat in another measurement. again, what does it mean to the flavor?they are still both "one tablespoon = one slice fully cooked bacon". plus, they are still the same 4.3 ounces per package.i'm gonna buy the stuff but it worries me when SO MANY changes show up. I love bacon, but I don't always love the greasy mess and fatty calories. For about the same price as a single pound of bacon, each 4.3 ounce pouch of Hormel Premium Real Crumbled Bacon is a true savings, in both calories and price. The resealable opening is perfect for portion control and extending long life. In our small family of two, a packet like this lasts 6 to 8 weeks and is really very convenient.Examples of how to use it? My favorite omelet uses melted butter, 3 to 4 egg whites and a couple pinches of crumbled bacon and a dash or two of freshly ground pepper. Boston Clam Chowder assembles much faster with ready cubed frozen hash browns and a teaspoon or so of this with 1 small chopped onion, water, milk or cream, sprinklings of dill weed and chopped luscious clams. A quiche Lorraine blends Swiss cheese, eggs or egg whites, light cream and either ham or crumbled bacon bits. Monday's Red Beans and Rice is so much more savory with the goodness of bacon. Your BLT salad doesn't have to wait for frying up bacon when Hormel's got the goods. Wow, these are world's better than Bacos...remember those nasty little sodium bombs?

Use to be when you purchased this the sizing was very consistent. I've opened 7 bags now, and about 1/3 of the pieces are very large, which require you to chop them up with a chef's knife. I would have purchased their bits & pieces if I wanted the larger hunks of meat. More fat pieces in the packages than I remember but Kirkland's is so much worse. Seems like they have changed the cooking procedure as the meat has almost a funky texture to it. Placed it in the m/w (with a paper towel covering it, because they spit) for 40-80 secs. on HIGH (depends on the m/w's strength). Crisps right up, is easier to crumble by hand now and the 'odd' taste disappears.

This is so good! I typically eat this with a spoon out of the bag as a snack, so I love that I don't have to go through the process of making bacon (and making a mess in my kitchen!) when I can get the great flavor of bacon like this! I also keep a bag in my purse so when I'm out and about it's an easy snack for my low-carb lifestyle.

I am a bacon lover. Was not sure if these would be good or not. But decided to try the pouches. I used one in my potato soup and found the flavor of the bacon was pretty good. So handy to have and easy to use. I gave two pouches to my son and he really like this brand. Guess that means he is hooked on Hormel Crumbled bacon too.

I use these bacon bits in my salad. I was buying them locally and paying a lot more for them. These are a really good buy, in my opinion.The size of the individual packages is larger than what my local sources usually carry, so I will reorder these when I run out of my current supply.
