I was pretty excited to receive this dog
I was pretty excited to receive this dog, especially based on the reviews, but so far I am disappointed. My daughter is 10 months old and loves to crawl after things but she could not care less about this toy. It is barely interactive and really does nothing but roll a few inches away and then just stop. Another reviewer mentions that you can change the speed, I loved that idea because my daughter is not a new mover, but there are two speeds and they are super slow and slightly less slow. The speed is changed by a push button on the right side of the dog, and as far as I can tell it has to be pushed each time the dog moves it is not a saved setting.Overall I found the toy to be lacking and I would not recommend it for anyone over 6 months. I absolutely love the yookidoo snail though, same idea but 100x's better. I've owned the snail for over three years and it's still a house favorite!

motivator
It's a fun early toy because it moves and makes sound. Does help to motivate your child to progress from laying on their tummy to scooting and then crawling. Simple, but effective. Much more useful than the Fur-Real dog we got - which seems more realistic but doesn't "walk". We've been happy with this toy and would definitely recommend. We have to use ours on area rugs and floors without carpeting, as it won't really move around on the thicker (plush) carpeting. Works fine on short carpets, though.

great for beginner crawlers
This is a great toy for a baby that cannot crawl or is just learning to crawl. The dog won't go very far, probably only a foot, but as soon as you touch its back it starts to move again. It makes noises so that the baby is reminded that it's there. My daughter loved it but she also knocked it over as soon as she could touch it. I also bought the snail that everyone recommended and that is by far her favorite. It lasts longer, goes farther, the back comes off for her to play with. I think they are both great toys but if I could only choose one, I would choose the snail.

Adorable Toy
My 8-month old grandson loves this little doggie. It is so much fun to watch the baby chase the dog and to teethe on Fred's tail when he catches his puppy. The baby also chases Fred around when in his walker and delights in bumping the toy into moving. The music and sound is at a nice level, so it is not annoying at all for the grown-ups. The only reason I gave Follow Me Fred four-stars instead of five is because Fred does not move well at all on plush carpet. If that isn't an issue for you, then I highly recommend.

Owned 2 of them
I have struggled with the toy. With my oldest child, we were given an earlier version. It was very cute, but has some sort of malfunction and would not make noise very often. She still loved to play with it since it crawled around and had crinkly ears/tail. On occasion that it did make noise, we loved it! The little songs were cute and fun, but not obnoxious. The little dog got lots of use, even as a quiet toy.Fast forward to child #3, and the little dog has been annihilated. We decided to order a new one for #3, since the first one was enjoyed so much by child #1 and #2. Nothing much has changes, except the fabric. It's still super cute; infants still love the crinkle ears/tail. However, shortly after getting it, this one is having some problems. I really like this toy, when it works, but am struggling with getting 2 slightly malfunctioning toys. Again, my kids still play with them and love them, but really?!

Doesn't move on carpet.
Positives:CuteNice sounds.Negatives:My house has two stories ( all tiles on first floor, all carpet upstairs)1)Dog does not move on carpet. ( location of the toy room and place I prefer my new crawler to master her crawling skill)2) so I caved and watched her like a hawk, ready to catch her if anything. Placed dog on tiles on first floor. Works fine but even on running mode, she grabbed the tail picked it up and banged the heck out of it, made me thankful we don't have a real dog).I placed dog way ahead of her and she caught up to it, (since it's supposed to stop and wait til she taps it) and picked it up and again banged it. So I guess it's not useful to keep her chasing it, as I thought.Sad cause I had my eye on this toy for her since she was 4 months old.

Does not function properly
Worked great for the first 2 weeks or so and my son loved it! It gradually started to slow down and now it only makes the barking singing noise without moving. It would've been a really cool concept if it worked properly for longer than 2 weeks.

Don't waste the money
This is one of those toys that I would say save your money. It's okay. It does what it says it will but my daughter just wasn't really interested or tried chasing it. It only goes the direction you bend the body in. So when it gets stuck she would get frustrated and move to another toy.

Great little dog
Absolutely love this dog and so does our 7 month old. She was a bit scared of it at first but you can mute the dogs bark whilst she got used to it. She now loves it and really helping her crawl further. It can be bent to go in circles or straight and it stops until touched again where it will move. Great that when it has stopped it will bark, growl, howl, sniff and play a tune to entice baby back (as our little one gets distracted quite easily). Would highly recommend.

Good toy. Could be better for encouraging to crawl.
The noises Fred makes and the design is great for grabbing our 8months attention. He loves picking it up and playing with it. I think Fred could be more sensitive to move away to encourage movement from baby. I was unsure about whether to buy this or a more substantial Vtech product my friend had. I think the more substantial size would have been better. That would have made it more awkward for the toy not to be knocked over or picked up and seemed to be slightly more sensitive.

Don't waste your money
Absolutely rubbish! Gutted I wasted my money on this.. moves so slow on wooden and carpet flooring! Says takes AA batteries it took AAA and it moves for about 3 seconds! Better follow me toys than this!

Super toy!
My baby loves this toy. He's had it since 6 months old and it definitely aided him in the crawling stages. He just loved to follow it around and laughed at it's barking and music. He's almost 11 months now and still likes playing with it.

Nice toy. Poor quality
A nice toy, my 6 month year old liked it while it lasted... for about a month. The audio then stopped (just a clicking noise) and the toy no longer moves. Has to get a 1-star review for being poorly made & only lasting a few weeks.
