if you've got an older mac or pc and you're wanting to migrate to a new drive, this is an easy, future-proof, cross-platform way to do it. though windows has always had an issue booting from an external prior to win7, you can still clone the drive over -- though there may be some issues will system level files. but with HDD drives cheap, you can pair this with these babies, NewerTech StoraDrive Anti-Static Case for 3.5" Hard Drives, 2 Pack, or these, iDsonix® Professional Premium Anti-Static Hard Drive Protection Box for 3.5 Inch HDD Storage Moistureproof Dustproof Shockproof (Five Colors), and have cheap, removable backups for your system. this has become an indispensable part of our backups -- reliable, portable, versatile. plus, it comes with all the cables and a power supply. well worth the cost.

I now have two of these for my Macs and love them (one's on my desk, the other's on my SAN). I use them for creating offline backups, so feedback about transfer speeds don't impact me (I rsync to them overnight). They're also smaller, lighter and more portable than other 3.5" external housings in emergencies. I saw one vendor's description say they're limited to 3TB, but they support 4TB drives fine (assuming your system does). I use them frequently with 99% full 4TB drives (15GB free) and never had a error reading or writing drives. I also love that they support 2.5" drives, as I have a number of those from hanging around from old Mac Mini and laptop upgrades, so they are now in rotation to backup their replacements.

This is the best solution for backing up my Mac Book Pro. It was vastly cheaper than packaged solutions. So, if you don't mind seeing the exposed drive, this is the best solution out there. I use a 3 TB drive and I can just pull out the drive and put another one in if necessary. To me, the swappable nature of this solution is well worth the reduced aesthetics of having an exposed drive.

Hard to beat this little caddie. Not much else has this much connectivity at this price. I have used extensively for work had ports go bad on me before, and the plastic seems brittle and waiting to break, but seems to hold up OK.

Intended use was for a Mac with Firewire 800 - just looking for a little extra speed vs USB 2.0 as older Macs do not support USB 3.0. Two units were purchased and tested thoroughly. One unit was actually bad. The "good" unit was slower on the firewire 800 interface than on standard USB 2.0 and this unit was slower than a cheap USB only unit I have had for many years. I will summarize that the Firewire interface provided is for connector convenience only and does not provide the speed increase that Firewire would normally provide. The unit topped out at 22 MB/Sec on FW800 and 23 MB/Sec on USB 2.0 - a Firewire 800 enclosure with a proper chip set should yield 65 MB/Sec.

I bought the Voyager for working on Firewire800 Macs. Having the variety of interfaces has been great. My unit never seemed to be able to seat the hard drives properly. Tonight, I took it all apart and the spring loaded thick metal plate that lifts the drives out of the unit was completely warped! Really bent! I have no time to send this thing back and it was working properly otherwise, so I scored the metal plate with my dremel to weaken it enough to bend it. Not perfect, but much better.

This docking station works great right out of the box. I used it with 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch drives. The firewire interface makes it very fast, It works like a charm. Very useful if you work with a lot of video footage stored on many drives. The design is simple and sturdy, it appears that it will last forever.

Perfect solution for my three computers. I have 3 separate 2.5" hard drives, each stored in its hard case, and backups are a snap. It seems to be faster than my older 2.5" external hard drives, cutting backup time significantly. A nice touch would be a dust cover. I am a happy user.

I have 2 of these devices already, and they are excellent. However, in this case the Universal Power supply with slot-in country specific adapters had no UK plug adapter included, only the US one. Amazon UK should have strict agreements with their suppliers that any electrical equipment is usable out of the box in the UK unless specifically marked. Companies supplying equipment brought cheaply in other countries have a responsibility to ensure that UK standard connections are included. This unit was purchased to sort out a very urgent situation at a client, and it was hugely embarrassing to open the box and have something that did not work. Only reason Inkubus don't get a single star is that another drive I had brought with me as 'insurance' had a suitable power adapter and I was able to complete the job.
