You don't need the bell push
If you do not wish to hold a remote conversation by phone with someone at your door, there is little advantage in buying an Arlo bell push.I have set up the chime to be triggered by the motion sensor on a camera. I use a camera covering my drive to trigger both the camera covering my front door and the chime. Given the inevitable delay between detection and triggering, the chime sounds as someone gets to the front door. (Just like a 'normal' door bell). It works for me.Is this necessary when the phone App alerts you anyway? Yes if the owner of the phone is not at home but someone is still in the house. Everybody gets an audible warning of someone approaching the house and if at home has a choice whether or not to go to the door. The downside of this method is that the chime sounds when anyone triggers the camera on leaving the house - but my cameras are always triggered anyway - and you may want to turn off the chime at night to stop the odd fox or neighbour's cat waking you up!

A promising product but flawed and support is AWOL in my experience
I bought both the doorbell kit and the smart chime to go with it as I didn’t have an existing door chime to hook it up to.On the plus side, the camera works well and the sensor picks up approaching visitors early day and night and displays them clearly. It also records the footage well alongside my existing Arlo pro camera system and smart hub.The downsides occur when the visitor presses the doorbell button. They don’t hear any feedback and the system is slow to dial out to my mobile phone so that by the time I answer, the postman has already turned and left.Further, the internal chime the I bought and integrated into the system stopped working after a week and now doesn’t alert anyone in the house to the fact of a visitor.Resets have achieved nothing.I have two Arlo case numbers created for me from which they are supposed to be contacting me to resolve these problems but having gone through their system twice I get told they have to pass it over to the UK branch to resolve and since then, zilch.Given this experience, as you might guess, when my three month active trial runs out in January, I shan’t be paying a subscription for more poor quality service. So any chance of me upgrading the system and being locked into a totally subscription system has gone out of the window too. Some of their other products are good but the doorbell and chime appear rushed out and clunky hit and miss products. My advice if you are considering buying this is, if it doesn’t work first time out of the box, send it straight back because both customer support and all the online tutorials and support are way less than adequate for any non-techie to work through. Online support doesn’t easily distinguish between a wired chime and a network chime so you end up chasing your tail trying to find support information for your product. As you might guess from my review, the Arlo stables have some donkeys in them.Edit January 2021 today my 6 months free Arlo Smart trial expired. I have not subscribed because the issues I highlighted here in December haven’t been addressed Arlo case #42154908 and 42154902 remain in some sort of limbo and they have not been in contact since issued. Why then would I wish to pay for the privilege of being ignored further??. Instead I got an invitation to pre-order the new Arlo essential video doorbell wire free.! Having already shelled out more than £200 for the previous model I think they’ve got some cheek and shan’t be taking up this opportunity to waste more money on another dud. Once I’ve found something that works to replace it with, it’s going in the recycling. I could put it on eBay but I won’t stoop that low. I have considered uninstalling it and returning it to Amazon but it’s six months old and I thrown away the packaging so why pay the cost of sending it to them to bin? So if you’re still considering buying this bell and chime after reading this, good luck because you’ll need lots of it.

Beautiful design, let down by a sub-standard Arlo doorbell
**Just a quick note, this review does focus mainly on the Arlo doorbell (seeing as you can't really have one without the other!).**First things first - I. love. Arlo. products. Not only do they look sleek as hell, but they're super easy to set up and the user interface on both the app and desktop versions are seamless and easy to use for any age range! With the above in mind, you'll understand that as soon as I saw new Arlo products being spoken about at CES 2019 I was instantly on Amazon, chucking the Arlo doorbell and additional Arlo chime straight in my basket for immediate pre-order!After a a month or so's wait for the release date, I finally had my Arlo doorbell and chime (insert 'kid on Christmas morning' meme here!). All other boring adult duties thrown aside to make time for testing and set up! ...this was unfortunately where the fun times abruptly ended :'( - yes, sad face (because super frustrated face can't be done!). So I will say right off the bat, the Arlo chime works as it should with 8/10 for volume and 7/10 for chime sounds available to choose from. The whole design of the chime is, in my personal opinion just perfect - I love the grey and white colours (the grey on the front is a textured material, with LED's being that glow through very nicely), it's compact and the build quality is up to the usual brilliant standards from Arlo! I would like to add that I really wish there were more chimes available to choose from, off the top of my head I would say there is around 15-20 which yes, does sound like a fair amount and maybe I'm just being picky, but like an old phone, I felt a lot of these chimes were pretty unrealistic for what you would actually class as a doorbell chime. I also feel that they could have made it slightly louder, seeing what such small speakers in phones can produce nowadays, I'd expect a dedicated plug-in noise machine to be able to top that! but it just about okay for my 3-bed house. I know it sounds like I'm giving the doorbell a pretty hard time of it, but these are just small issues I would have liked to see improved (maybe in Chime pro/Chime 2?). Other than these, I definitely would have kept the Chime, if it weren't for the Arlo doorbell. The Arlo doorbell is where this really fall apart...let's break this down into some nice simple bullet points:Pros- Motion sensor alerts you when the doorbell senses motion at close proximity.- This also triggers a white LED ring around the doorbell to start slowly glowing.- The doorbell itself looks awesome with the contrasting white sides/rear and all black front with discreet 'Arlo' printed to the front.Cons- Works with Alexa (any Alexa devices you have will also play the chime sound) = does not work with Alexa.- Takes 2x AA batteries = would have expected rechargeable from Arlo (2 per pack so no downtime would have surely been acceptable and certainly help reflect the price tag?)- There really is quite a time gap once the doorbell has been pressed and to when your phone starts ringing to either activate the linked camera and the integrated microphone in the doorbell or just using the doorbell mic with no camera.- If left unanswered, the doorbell will proceed in asking if the guest would like to leave a voicemail...a couple of issue here:- The prerecorded message is really crackly and can't be changed to anything else or to record your own message.- The messages I managed to leave (I say managed as this was quite an unstable thing to do) were not in my Arlo archive, even though the app alerts you to there being 'new messages from doorbell'.SO after evaluating all of the above and weighing out the pros vs the cons, it was with a heavy heart that I decided to return both the Arlo doorbell and Arlo chime (nice to look at but the the dosh and without the doorbell, pretty pointless on it's own) and wait for Arlo to release a few more updates....until then!

A brick through the window would be more reliable and less stressful
Works for a day or so then stops, reset and repeat. Updates tweaks settings all makes no difference. It just doesn’t work reliably. Awful product my ring friends are laughing at me
