Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These - Season 1 [Blu-ray]

Great series! Incredible Thought put into this, and excellent remake of the original
Love how closely this series sticks to the book. Also love how similar to in real life, the show depicts how two opposing forces both think they are fighting against eachother, were actually all along being played by an unknown 3rd party force in the background who is profiting from all of the ongoing war/fighting.Love how this show very much illustrates that! I wonder if that's the reason this series is so hard to find anywhere outside of Amazon. It's almost impossible to find! Kudo's for Prime for picking this show up and having at least a few seasons. I will come back time and time again to watch this.

Still amazing
While many criticize the DNT adaptation of the LOGH novels because of the cut dialogue and such over the original OVA series, DNT still delivers in quality. The OP/ED songs are very well done and can hold themselves against the original OVA's OP/ED songs. If you're into space operas with a lot of intrigue, various subplots that actually do lead somewhere, politics, battles, betrayal, this is the series for you. Think Star Was but without any jedi or alien stuff. Just two opposing ideologies and 2 main characters taking you on a well written journey.

Good adaptation of the source material but no extra features
While I do believe the original OVA comes out the stronger of the two in terms of its visual style, storytelling, and soundtrack, "Die Neue These" remains a faithful adaptation of the source material. This first season, comprised of 12 episodes, covers the first volume, "Dawn," of the series by Yoshiki Tanaka, recently published in English by Haikasoru. Like I said, the strength, and at the same time weakness, of this new adaptation is that it closely follows the story it's based upon, with the only liberty taken in regards to the invasion of Iserlohn Fortress (but I believe this is never expounded upon in the novel itself). It does not add to the source material in the same way the original OVA and Gaiden did, so perhaps this is the better choice for purists. I'm not exactly clear who's the main composer for the series, but from what I gather the main theme was a collaboration between Shin Hashimoto and Hiroyuki Sawano (but I could very well be wrong). In any event, while the soundtrack does feature some good tracks, it sadly cannot rival the breath of classical music that infused the OVA with such a wonderful sense of timelessness. On the visuals side, while overall I prefer the 80s series' style, I can't deny some of the special effects on "Die Neue These," particularly regarding space battles or simply the depiction of planets and stars, do look quite better. As for the contents of this Blu-ray + DVD + Digital edition, it comes with 2 Blu-ray discs and 2 DVD discs. The only extras featured are the OP, ED, and some trailers. Pretty barebones to my mind, but it would seem this is par for the course for this type of release. Consider that the Japanese release, while undoubtedly more feature-rich, comes in three separate volumes of $100 each. This edition does come with a minimalistic reversible cover, which I show in the attached pictures. It's not much, but I'll take what I can get.If anything, "Die Neue These" is a good starting point for newcomers to The Legend of the Galactic Heroes' universe (I got my brother to watch the OVA after this). If you're unsure about it, I do believe it's available for streaming over at Crunchyroll. For my part, I'm looking forward to season two.

Great character development
Great retelling of the anime

This does not have any anime trops
This is a mature story about military and politics. The show follows the admirals and other decision makers of both side in a galactic scale war.
