Firefly Aura Petite Square Refillable Glass Oil Lamp - Strong Soda Glass

I've never had an oil candle before and in the beginning the main reason I wanted one was to have an economical clean way of setting the mood. The CLEAN fuel you can buy on the Firefly website is reportedly less polluting than paraffin candles with no soot and smoke. When I received the oil candle I was excited to see how pretty it was. I love the hefty smooth glass. It lights very easily but I did have some problems filling it at first....and made a little mess. I have to say my plastic oil bottle that the oil came in was full to the top and that made it difficult to pour into the tiny hole of the oil candle through the small funnel that was included but when I tried again ...and tilted the funnel to the side a bit.... as I poured.... the oil ran in fine with no mess at all. The company does sell a bottle specially made to fill these candles with....which I will be getting in the future. The candle burned beautifully and tonight will be the fourth nite that I am burning it for about 4 or 5 hours each night. I Love it! It's so nice to be able to have a candle lit without worrying about polluting your surroundings.The people who work at Firefly are also very friendly and promptly answer any questions you may have.

I love these lamps. Such a great alternative to messy candles and they look so much more contemporary and elegant. Also, over time they will save you lots of money versus buying expensive candles. This particular lamp is a little smaller than I thought it would be but the glass is very thick, and due to its square shape, will not tip over. (Tip: To prepare the wick and dampen it with oil I pull it up out of the wick holder but not completely through and submerge it into the oil in the lamp upside down. This of course dampens the top half of the wick. Remove the wick from the oil and pull the wick back to desired level for burning and replace back into the lamp. Now both ends of the wick are damp with oil and ready for burning.)

From top to bottom, the wick holder doesn't fill the hole like some of the pictures show. It's quite loose actually and I thought the glass was broken when I first opened the box but it was the holder hitting the glass. The wick is also too short and I'll either replace the wick or cheat with some water to push the oil level higher. The base on the inside isn't even but since they are said to be hand blown I'm going to assume that's something from the way it's made. As it is I was hoping for a more complete product and this is too costly when considering replacing parts to make it more secure (more secure wick holder) and more usable (wick length). I went with this one instead of some of the other firefly ones because reviews said this was stronger. I love the tealight holders I have but this one not so much.edit: I looked at the wick holder for the much smaller tea light candles and that one seems more appropriate in size for this candle. Perhaps they could consider using the larger diameter one instead in the this larger candle.

Advertizement did not make clear the size and this was a lot smaller than I expected. I wanted it as a attractive lamp oil candle. I brought one years ago that was twice the size but I did not know that when I bought it. After doing research, I understand the company used to sell a larger version, which was the correct size, but it was discontinued. I did finally purchase a larger size from another company for $30 but it was designed as an air scent lamp with no continued flame capability. too bad.

Keep away from children can spill since lid is not secure

This item, as lovely as it is, is much smaller than i expected. Prices could be more competitive. There's nothing wrong it but they are expensive for what they are. They are too small for the price. For what i paid, i thought they'd have been half inch wider and taller.

We wanted inexpensive, stable, oil lamps for occasional power outages. These fit the bill and work just fine. I took one star off for the tiny funnel. The candles would be easier to fill If the funnel had a tube to extend its length like other oil lamps we've bought. But this is a nit.

Small, beautiful, lovely. I call it "this little light of mine" (with apologies to the greater meaning of that song lyric during the Civil Rights Movement). I light it frequently at night when I read or just relax. So easy to use. You just need to be mindful to not leave it lit when you nap or sleep, naturally, especially if you have pets.
