Bush isn’t Belladonna
Just not the same for me. Bush with Armored Saint, outstanding, but Anthrax without Joey Belladonna a different game. All the old Anthrax songs with Bush works since you will pay top dollar for Anthrax and Joey on Spreading the Disease and Among the Living LPs.

A slightly weird collection of classic Anthrax. Awesome, right?
This is another album which takes a fair share of criticism... but that I love enough to write a review to defend it. However, it is a little weird for me, while because I really enjoy the album, I can easily recognize why many others may not. I am a huge fan of John Bush's vocals. Like a whole lot of Anthrax fans, I have often thought Anthrax's old stuff would sound even better with him on there, and dreamed of hearing the classics again with John belting out the lyrics. So this disc in a lot of ways plays like a dream come true. It is a super-lean, no-filler collection of old school Anthrax featuring, to me, an even better line-up! Almost. Like any "best of collection", there are some tracks missing that I really wish were on here. Some more "State of Euphoria" would have been great. Some "Persistence of Time" and more "Among the Living" really would have hit the spot too. I always crave a good compilation album that only takes the very best of a band's work... but this is maybe a little too lean. But while I expected some of my fave tracks to be missing, what totally surprised me was just how... foreign these songs sounded with Bush on board. It felt like taking a walk through the Twilight Zone for me. It seems that although in general I enjoy Bush's vox a lot more than Belladonna's... I simply grew up listening to these tunes with Joey's vocals and that is what sounded "right" to me. So the album seemed much more weird and different to my ears than I expected. It was not the instant transportation into a realm of metal ecstasy that I assumed was in store for me. Hearing Bush shout out "I Am the Law" did not melt me face the first time I played it. It required a lot of listens for me to get into it. That was initially a bit of a disappointment. But at the end of the day, I define a truly great album as something that sounds different from everything else, sounds great and makes a fella keep playing it over and over again. This fits right into that category. The final struggle I had with the album was the "live" studio format. On most of the tracks this was no problem at all. However, every once in awhile I would find myself wishing there was just a little more polish and slickness to a song. For example, the intro to "Be All End All" is not the same... and I cannot say that I like it more than the original. But mostly this album's "live studio" format highlights one of Anthrax's great strengths: this band is into having fun. These guys grabbed a mob of their most hardcore fans and recorded an album those fans demanded... stuffed full of the songs that they wanted. In a genre of music crammed full of dark, morose "serious" (to the point of self-parody) musicians, Anthrax remembers metal is all about pure energy. Everyone can get just as much energy out of a good time as opposed to the now more-than-well-traveled path of always furious dark metal. After all these years, Anthrax can still skillfully do both. Buying this album and "Attack of the Killer B's" provided me with nearly a sufficient collection of old-school Anthrax jams. I still bought "Persistence of Time" and the original "Among the Living" just to get a sampling of Belladonna into my collection. I am sure many of the die-hard Belladonna heads out there, and those that previously bought the Anthrax "best of" collection would find this album worthless. But for those of us who prefer the Bush vocals, or the truly enlightened fans who can enjoy the work of both frontmen, this is a quirky and tight collection of classic metal. I dig it... a lot. I hope you do too.

bush crushes belldonna's song flat!!!!!!
rerecording old song can be extremly tricky and this cd is no exception there are moment where you say thats not spot on but it's still full on great.come on your taking 20 year old songs & technology and trying to do it faithfully and add something without over doing it but in this case you don't have the same two guitarist, only one is and he is not the lead guitarist either big diffenence because dan spitz was a huge guitarist in that little mans body and two singers are different and the bass player is also different also but they do pull it off well but scott still likes to try his hand at doing some leads and playing with effects technology which i'm not a big fan of but rob definity pulls his wieght well but he is not dan but very good replacement.after hearing this any one who never went to see anthrax live because joey was fire and they hate jon after hearin this should have had to eat their words, because i realy can't say any of these songs ever sounded better with joey instead of john,I think john's voice is grouch and at the same time better than joeys in every way,and the set list for this is pretty good covering their whole career very well metal thrashing to persistance.1. Deathrider2. Metal Thrashing Mad3. Caught In A Mosh4. A.I.R.5. Among the Living6. Keep It In The Family7. Indians8. Madhouse9. Panic10. I Am The Law11. Belly Of The Beast12. N.F.L.13. Be All End All14. Gung-HoDisc 2:1. Anthrax2. Lone Justice3. In My WorldI might add a couple songs but over all very complete!good luck getting the 2 disc version, for the price you might not think it's worth it?but john delievers the goods!

I love the old Anthrax songs and hearing them with John ...
I love the old Anthrax songs and hearing them with John Bush, who was awesome in Anthrax, is a nice touch. Both Bush and Belladonna are great in Anthrax, imo, but I do enjoy hearing Bush's vocals on the classic Belladonna material. If you're a fan of Anthrax, then I highly recommend adding this disc to your collection.

bush on belladonna
THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS is a good take on classic ANTHRAX songs with john bush on vocals.you always get to hear a new vocalist in a band singing the old songs live, but rarely do you get new "controlled" versions of classic songs with the new guy.you still have the original albums in their original form and you have new versions also. best of both worlds.wish MAIDEN would do an album like this using only the 4 cd's bruce did not sing on.

John Bush sounds great on the old material
If you're an Anthrax fan you want this album. The production is definitely updated and John Bush does a fantastic job on vocals.

The songs are great. All recorded with slower and heavier tones
The songs are great. All recorded with slower and heavier tones. Bush is a great frontman but Joey is the better singer. Bush constantly runs out breath and it kept reminding me of Biz Markie, which was very distracting and ruins the relistening potential for me making it feel more gimmicky.

John Bush rules!!

An Anthrax fans dream!!!!
Wow I love this album!!!!! First off I should say that I like bush and belladonna equal. Their both awesome and they both breath their own life into the band. To hear bush sing all of the classics is just too amazing. He does a great job and the production and song selection is amazing. Sure no "antisocial" and no "got the time" but the the fans did a great job picking the songs! Since belladonna is back in the band now it would be awesome if they chose the best songs from the 4 bush albums and re-did them. That would be beyond cool!!!!!!!!
