Yes it is expensive for rice, Yes it lives up to the Hype.Think about this though, if you want to make some special rice to go with your special meal, its only a dollar or so per serving, you are paying more for french fries.The flavor and texture is just on another level compared with the rice you are used to.

So far, I would highly recommend this product. I have received several of them with good future dates on them. I gave this rice to all of my family for a fun gift, and they all liked it. The rice has a nutty flavor.

I'm 65, been cooking rice for decades. I knew there were heirloom rice strains out there that interested me, that I wanted to support, but for too long, I stuck with Mahatma, and botched every other pot because it just never cooked consistently. I finally bit the bullet and bought my first Charleston Gold, and ever single pot has cooked perfectly on the stove top since the very first pot - AND it's beautiful rice. Creamy, fluffy and tasty. Love it.

I have been buying Charleston Gold Rice for a few years to lend an authentic flavor to southern cooking. Although the flavor and especially the aroma of the rice have always been great, I have been disappointed with the last couple of bags though since most of the rice was broken.For the price, I would expect most of the rice grains to be closer to complete. Typically "broken rice" is sold as seconds for much less money.

It's a little bit pricey but soooo worth it. It cooks like rice but comes out like risotto. I just love it!

I bought this to experience what I saw in the gift shops in SC because I was curious. I'd have been happy to have one bite or buy a cup. But this size at this price was all I could find. So I did it one time. I encourage trying it one time, but it's not going to be your regular purchase. It has a nice fragrance, and I guess it tastes good, but not so good that I would buy this rice instead of the cheap stuff.

This rice cooked up perfectly fluffy without being sticky and had a wonderful slightly nutty flavor. It is a world different from the regular long grain rice you can get in grocery stores. It was a great part of a special southern dinner I made for a group of friends and family.

I first heard of Charleston Gold Rice from watching the wonderful documentary "High on the Hog". The story of how American cooking was and still is influenced by the techniques, recipes and ingredients brought from Africa by enslaved people.The initial wealth of the South came from the cultivation and worldwide sale of this type of rice and later from farming cotton.The rice grains are smaller and, in my opinion, softer and tastier than other white rice. I've used Charleston Gold in a stir fry, in combination with steamed vegetables, and as a side dish. This is my new favorite brand of white rice.
