The board itself is not magnetic and will need to be hung with the loop that is attached. However the magnetic stars do stick to the board.

Any idea where I could buy more magnetic stars that would work with this chart?

Sorry I know this response is late. I am having the same trouble. Actually mine didn't come with the yellow magnets(only 3) as I had bought it from Amazon outlet. I have 3 kids & using one color per child. I had gold star stickers that I bought at the dollar store awhile back. You know how the magnets come in those sheets you need to punch them out on? I kept the other sheets. I'm putting the star stickers in between those sheets & then I'm going to cut them out! If you don't have the sheets just go buy thin magnet tape or I'm sure you can buy magnet sheets. You may even be able to buy a punch out star to save time cutting. Good luck!

Are the magnets all written or are there pictures? I am wondering about kids who can't read yet.

No pictures, but I go through it with my 3 1/2 year old just fine. You just say what the goal was and give the star (or not put the star) accordingly. In a few weeks, they know what's up there - no pictures needed. I like the board a lot, and so do my boys ... it has really helped the 6 year old move faster in the morning for school.
