Save Your Family from Going Deaf
If you are on the fence about TV Ears, get off the fence &border a set for yourself! They are a life saver for my hearing since my husband has been using tv ears, I can watch TV with him again! He can hear the volume in his ears thru the headset & I can have the tv volume low enough for me to enjoy it If I choose to sleep the tv volume can be completely down & my hubby can set the volume e wants on the headset . Don't hesitate these are awesome!!

A very bright idea - clever too.
Our TV room is located on 1st floor directly below a bedroom suite in our home which is often used by visiting friends and relatives and one of our kids had politely informed us that the TV audio can be very distracting. So, the TV Ears Dual Digital Wireless Headset System is the ideal solution for that issue. My wife and I can enjoy clear and robust audio in the TV room which is otherwise silent and everyone is happy. The TV ears are perfectly convenient, comfortable and they effectively accomplish what they're designed to do. If I had any criticism it would only be that the LED's on the front face are extremely bright, actually annoying, especially in a darkened room. My simple solution for that was to fold up a post-it lengthwise a couple times, then fold it roughly in half and hold it down at front right with the TV ears base so that the thickness of the paper in front of only the offending LED's blocks most of the brightness. That way the signal isn't blocked. Also, I have no idea what purpose all the other LED's serve, except the ones which signify that the TV ears themselves are properly in place when re-charging.

Made for older people = very usable
I am not elderly but I wanted to get this so my husband and I could sit in the same room while he watched something on TV that I didn't want to watch. This was my third try at getting something for this purpose (first one was an over-the-ear headset that wasn't comfortable on the couch, second was a Bluetooth device that can't stay plugged in). This product is perfect! I love that it is targeted towards older people, which means it has to be really simple to use (it is). Only caveat is that because the sound is transmitted via IR you really have to have a line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver on the headset, so you can't be lying too horizontally. But I like the IR concept because it's not finicky like Bluetooth. A great thing about it is that it comes with three different ways to hook it to your TV. The audio jacks on my TV were faulty so I used the "optical" port and it works perfectly. I got the dual headset version in case we wanted to listen together, but actually we still can, because I can set the TV audio out to "optical + speakers" and then I can listen through the speakers (or put it on mute) while he listens through the headset. Love it! Note that the manual says you can leave the headsets on the charger/docking station without worrying about the battery, which is great. This product would probably be even better for people with hearing problems because it's pretty loud -- the lowest setting was loud enough for me.

Remember when you could hear the dialog? Here ya go.
Having some hearing loss, my experience with today's TVs is that they don't deliver quality sound through their tiny speaker array, nor from the rather expensive "system" I've added to make the footsteps of the Jurassic dinosaurs shake the room. And, when I turn up the volume, what I get is massive quantity, but no better quality. The dialog is still somewhat muted despite that my neighbors can now hear it plainly. So, my state of denial [of hearing loss] notwithstanding, I purchased what seemed to be the aids that got a preponderance of good, albeit mixed reviews - The TV Ears. The most positive thing about TV Ears is that I can now "hear" the dialog, be it a news or music presentation. If that is what you are looking for, and generally if you're researching these, that's likely what you want, they are great. And I gave them a 4-star rating because that is exactly what I needed. If you want more - like sound quality or comfort (ouch), you will be sorely disappointed. You can crank up the volume, manipulate the tone, but all you get is louder or lower voices with some other sound in the background. Too much or too little can be annoying and can expose a "hiss", so it takes a bit of trial and error to get it just right. They absolutely must be within range and within line-of-site of the base, so you need to be sure to set it up right in the first place. And even at that, the signal isn't always perfect, in fact it's rarely perfect with some garbling to be expected - but it works. And last, while I'm happy with them, because as noted, they do what I wanted them to do, I can't imagine sitting down for more than a program or two given they are ungodly uncomfortable, but that might simply be because of the shape of my head - humanoid. Tip to Manufacturer: That you have to be sure to "turn off" the volume knob or the unit won't recharge isn't intuitive and isn't properly explained in your instructions. When the unit is place in the base/charger, that in itself should shut it down, as it commonplace with every other friggin' device of this sort. End rant.

We love them
It’s exactly what we needed. My husband has one also & we can listen at two different volumes as I’m more hard of hearing as him. It’s not like hearing aides. You don’t have to poke it in your ear.

Make Sure It Works With Your TV
I gave the 3-star rating based on two things. First, the product description really should have a list of compatible TVs. Second, it would be nice if somewhere in the documentation it mentioned there must be an unobstructed line-of-sight between the base and the headset. A family member walking in front of the base unit will cause interference with the sound reception in the headset. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the product, but I initially thought I was going to have to return it. After making all connections and charging for the recommended time, I tried to use the headset with the TV. I have a Sanyo 39" DP39843, about 8 years old. The base red light was lit, indicating it was connected to the TV, but all I could get was a fluttering sound through the headset. I called TV Ears customer service and Michelle was very helpful. We went through a number of troubleshooting steps and she apologetically told me she believed it was not compatible with my TV, and she suggested I call Sanyo customer service. After finishing with TV Ears customer service, I decided to do a little experimenting. I found that when the TV was set to receive over-the-air, the TV Ears would not work. I just got a fluttering sound in the headset. However, when my TV input was taken from the HDMI on the DirecTV box, the TV Ears worked exceptionally well. The reason, I believe, has to do with the Dolby audio. The over-the-air audio on my TV does not have native Dolby capability. If you a somewhat older TV and plan to purchase TV Ears, it would be beneficial to do a little research, maybe contact TV Ears customer service in advance, and make sure it will work with your TV.

These are a must have for someone who is hearing impaired!
My husband has a severe hearing problem & watching TV with him was unbearable for me. He needed the volume up as high as it would go & needless to say I couldn’t be in the same room with him . I reluctantly bought these bc they were a bit expensive but they are worth every penny ! He is now able to watch tv & hear every word & I can join him without busting my eardrums. They work independent from the tv volume so I can lower the tv volume without affecting his volume through his headset ! This has been the best purchase I have ever made ! If you are living with one who is hearing impaired I highly reccomend you give these a try !
