The Eccentric Family Collection [DVD]

From my review of the series (note, I did not receive nor ask for compensation for including my own review): "The series centres around the fortunes of the Shimogamo family in modern day Kyoto. The Shimogamo consist of Yasaburo, Yajiro, Yaichiro and Yashiro and their mother. Their father died a few years before the series began but they carry on as best they can without him. Yaichiro wants to take the title of Nise-emon (community leader) that his father had before his death. Along with that, Yasaburo must deal with the mechanizations of his uncle, Soun Ebisugawa, who is more upwardly mobile in high society than the rest of the family. All while tending to the local Tengu (birdmen gods) master, Professor Akadama. Oh, and the whole Shimogamo family are all Tanuki, a kind of racoon dog, that can shapeshift into anything really."Eccentric Family is very set in how it wants to depict its characters and I would not recommend this for people just getting into anime. While it's got a lot of humour and fantasy, it requires some knowledge of Japanese mythology beforehand to get the most out of it (IMHO). I would, however, recommend this for viewers who've seen some anime, like it and want to see something different from the current examples streaming on legal sites at the moment. It's a great little adventure that won't tax you butThe set itself is wonderfully put together and MVM deserves full marks for putting together a classic box set reminiscent of the old ADV chipboard sets that really felt like you were buying something solid. The set uses the blu ray transfer from the US version put out by NIS America back in January 2014. (Note: the subtitles are burned on and cannot be switched off) Trailers for other titles and clean opening and closing animations wrap the whole thing up. It also copies their excellent hard backed booklet with interviews, character model illustrations and more. For those who cannot play Region A blu ray's, MVM's set is for you.

If you don't have this title, you need to get it. My review won't do it justice. This is a must for any worthwhile collection.

Great anime, I have had a lot of fun with a anime that is different from what we are used to. The scenery is Kyoto is very detailed and for all those who have been there is like revisiting the sites.

This is an anime made in a fast=-paced crazy style that I do not usually like, but its adventurous range and its cheerful good humor won me over completely. It offers images that add up to an up-to-date presentation of Japanese attitudes to mythic traditions, cultural inheritance and family obligations. The focus is on four brothers from a high-ranking Kyoto family with rivalries and inner conflicts to deal with. Three of them are to some extent social misfits. The fourth is actually quite level-headed. They are surrounded by a circle of more or less distant and more or less demanding acquaintances. To undermine any heavy implications they also happen to be shape-changers. One of them for example spends most of the story as a traditional frog in a traditional well in a temple compound, who can be wooed for good fortune in the traditional way by small cash.donations thrown into the well. There are ladies among the brothers' acquaintance but the ladies. seem to float like goddesses, above the turmoil or conceal themselves as it were offstage, in the wings. The ladies' actions are nonetheless crucial to the outcome. The exception to the rule that women seem distant and unapproachable is the brothers' very sensible and strikingly attractive mother. She is always at hand. This DVD will put a smile on the face of most people who watch it..

個人的には非常に面白かった。ただ、登場人物に非常に癖があり、合わない人は合わなそう。食べたい程好き、でも食べてしまったら二度と会う事ができない・・・狂気と感じるかそれも愛と感じるか・・・

原作からのファンでアニメも見てハマった人間なのでいつか欲しいと思ってました。インポートで字幕が消せない不自由さはありますが画質良好で全話がDVD2本に収録されたコンパクト仕様に大満足です。あと日本版のパッケージデザインよりこちらのが好きです。リージョンフリーのプレイヤーがないとみれませんが今はプレイヤーも格安の時代なので日本版DVDBOXを購入するよりこちらの海外版とプレイヤーを買っても1万円でお釣りがくるので(時期を選べば5千円以内で買えるかも？)これを機にプレイヤー買っても損はないです。

フランス版ですが、日本語ありで問題はないです（op edはアルファベットになっている）ただ、DVD操作アイコンが分かりにくいのが困りもの。値段を考えれば十分ですが

この価格なら、とてもお買い得商品だと思います。ケースは少しちゃっちいと思いますが、充分楽しめます。京都の背景がとても綺麗で、行った気分になれます。

尼なので安心して買いましたがガッカリでした。一層二枚に全話入ってるのかな？(一話だけ見て後は見てないので)音が良くないからか少し早回ししてる様な感じがしましたね。英語の字幕も出たままで消せずyoutubeにupされてる様なのを見てる感じです。安かったのだけが救いです。

トールケース割れてたが、映像に問題なかったので星3つにしました。
