Great earbuds for the price
Good earbuds. I've had these for a while now and use them daily. As for the sound quality, it's good not great. Nice bass

Wanted it to work but not production ready
I went in excited but was ultimately very disappointed. Let me start with the basics- I use an iPhone 6+ and consider myself fairly technology savvy. The Good:- Headphones are comfortable, could wear them all day- The sound (when it worked) was good- not great but good. The Bad:- The sole use of Runkeeper was a major disappointment. I gave the app a real shot but it was mediocre at best.- When the music played it would stop and then couldn't get sound out of the headphones unless I quit the Runkeeper app- Heart rate would display sporadically- if at all- Couldn't play music in apps outside of Runkeeper (Soundcloud for example) during a workout.- The toggle between the mic and music mode was annoying.

Lots of potential, not quite there yet.
I'm happy with the comfort and the sound seems fine (I'm not an audiophile). My only complaint is that the integration with RunKeeper really isn't that good yet. There is a weird clicking sound that happens when you put it in voice mode when you are running. If you try to use the iPhone podcast app RunKeeper doesn't get your heartbeat and the audio cues are really quiet. There's also no way to get your heartbeat except to start a workout in RunKeeper. A simple heart rate app would have been nice and simple to do.Update: I contacted RunKeeper and after uninstalling and reinstalling runkeeper the podcast issue seems to have gone away.I still would like a simple app that puts my heartbeat in the notification bar at the top of the screen but hopefully that will come with time.

Runkeeper is not currently supporting this product anymore!!!
This is probably the 200th thing I've purchased on Amazon, but my first review. Beware. Purchased from Amazon Warehouse deals, but they did not include the access to one month access of Runkeeper Go, which was a bad start. Additionally, there is no volume switch on the headphones, which is a design flaw I knew about prior to purchasing, but did not anticipate being annoying as it is. Lastly, and most importantly, these are currently not being supported by RunKeeper. So, most people's primary reason for buying these (the heart rate monitor functionality) is no longer supported by the app for which they were designed exclusively. Here is a transcript of the email I received from Runkeeper customer support:"Hey there! Thanks for reaching out, I'm happy to help!We are aware the support for the SMS Biosport headphones has been dropped in the newest Runkeeper release. We are currently working with both Intel and SMS to find a solution that provides all Runkeeper users with the high quality experience that was missing from previous releases. As we are currently negotiating with both teams, we will not have any updates for at least a two week timeframe. So sorry about this and as soon as we have any new information, I'll be sure to let you know!"Yikes! In summary, until these are supported by RunKeeper, there is absolutely no reason to purchase this product. I wanted this item to work out so much (and am holding out hope that SMS and RunKeeper will come to an agreement), but I could not recommend them to anyone at this time.

Using with an iPhone
Having a heartbeat sensor integrated with ear buds is an amazing thing just because it's one less thing to carry and strap on.There are a few things to keep in mInd though...1. You've got to carry your phone. An iPod shuffle won't record your heart rate. My iPhone 5 supports this just fine. If you have a newer iPhone, I imagine that it would work as well.2. This does not have a 3 button (or even 1button) remote, so you've got to have a good "no skips" playlist If you want to avoid fiddling with your phone on the move.3. There IS a mic, so you can theoretically take calls (using the touchscreen controls in your phone) but you'll lose heart rate monitoring while you're on the call. You have to move a physical switch on the cord in order to take a call, and then move it back to restart heart rate monitoring.4. These are ear buds, not in-ear headphones, so the sound quality is way, way below what you would expect from a $140 (or even $60) set of in-ear phones. In ear headphones depend on creating a seal in your ear canal so that smaller drivers can produce pretty outstanding sound. These are ear buds, which sit in your ear, and because there isn't a seal the sound is less "defined" and more "muddy." These are pretty heavy on the bass, presumably to make up for the lack of ear canal seal.5. Even though these are ear buds, outside sound, even when there is no music playing, is somewhat blocked. I run cross-country, so it doesn't matter to me, but if you are running in town this might affect your safety in certain circumstances.6. There are three sizes of rubber tips to fit different ears. These are specific to this set of ear buds, so if you lose the ones that fit you, you're out of luck. These come fitted with the medium size, which were fine for me initially, but I switched to the smaller size after My first run because my ears were a little sore. I took another run this morning with the smaller size, and although they were a little "looser" they were perfectly comfortable and never once fell out.Bonus Features:1. These have a flat "no tangle" cord which works really well. I have another set of buds that have a flat cord similar to these and I've been really happy with them.2. These come with a little zippered case/bag that is really handy for storing these. It's a nice, welcome feature.3. The packaging of these ear-buds is really a premium setup. The box is well made with a magnetic closure. If you are thinking about buying these as a gift for the runner in your life, they will certainly be impressed. Why 4 stars instead of five?I think that, at $140, these should have a 3 button remote, and I prefer an in-ear headphone design to this ear bud design. The sound quality would be better in that case, and hopefully you could also use standard replacement tips, Still, these are a great example of what they are, and are a welcome addition to my running kit.

Apparantly defunct HRM function, at least on iPhone/Runkeeper
My first Amazon review ever. I felt I needed to let people know that this seems to be a defunct product, at least the heart rate monitoring part. Originally, these were compatible with Runkeeper (only), and I even found dated instructions for how to set them up. But the app seems to have been updated, and I found no way to set up & use the HRM function, so I returned them. One telling sign that these are done: I contacted support of both SMS and Runkeeper (multiple times), and there was NO response at all. Pretty sad - I expected better of Runkeeper at least. It seems like these headhpones may have been the casualty of a partnership between SMS and RunKeeper gone bad.
