it has one problem
the handle burned and I had to cut the part damaged. I would like to see this piece made of metal or the wood part 3 to 4 inches away from the main part (disc) perhaps people can get better results.

very good
a recreation of a simmer plated I had 50 years ago. it works perfectly. Serves as a double boiler in some circumstances.

Description of Item Wrong
I ordered this item and received the 8.25 simmer ring in plastic wrapping. This item was described as 8.5 inches and heavy duty. When I contacted Amazon, nothing was done about it. Would not recommend seller.

Works but when the gas is on the lowest setting ...
Works but when the gas is on the lowest setting, which is too high for the food, with the diffuser the gas needs to be closer to medium just to simmer. Should not block so much heat.

who designed this?
I am not faulting the storefront as they were very fast and provided a product that they wouldn't know would fail so miserably, hence the 5 starts for them. The design is very faulty. The handle (made of wood) has a piece that inserts into the round plate, which heats up so much when you use it that it turns to charcoal inside!! I did not notice that this was happening until the charcoal pieces disintegrated and the plate fell off when I picked it up. Thank goodness there wasn't a pan on it! The pricing on this is so low that it is not worth returning, but I will inspect things much more closely in the future.

Good idea...but
Ended up having to bend the handle to make the plate part lay flat without wobbling. Some drip over spilled on it so I had to rinse the stuck food off. It took two days for the water that seeped inside to dry out, then the whole thing developed a coating of rust, so I had to throw it out. Bottom line is I spent $8 for a one time use. Won't make the mistake of purchasing this style of diffuser again. It's ok I guess if you never spill on it or have to clean it. It did diffuse the heat as advertised but that's the only thing positive I can say about it.

too light
both simmer plates are too light, made of thin aluminum grade,,,for money each, will have no life,,need heavy duty, thicker aluminumthickness to absorb flame intensity,, heavier duty metal!!!!!
