Is there any delay or lag when using the tablet wirelessly?

There is no delay what so ever, just make sure that you have a full charge on the battery when you do go wireless.

Why would the wireless accessory kit cost $40 while the actual product the Bamboo Pen Tablet costs $52? It seems ridiculous.

Because the wireless Accessory kit fit's more than one model many of them being much more expensive than $52.

I understand what the 2 little USB devices do, but what does that huge battery go into?

There should be two spots on your tablet that snap open. One side is where receiver goes into and the other side is where the battery goes. Then the USB goes into your computer.
