Use MacBook Air 90 Percent but Must Retain Window Laptop for some tasks
Having spent many years using Windows-based laptops, I mistakenly thought I could switch easily to MacBook Air. I already had a current model I Pod Touch, an I Pad Mini, and a full size I Pad. It wasn't to be. I found the software of the Mac confusing, difficult to learn, and, worst of all, time-consuming when i came upon a software problem even with the purchase of Apple Care. I also find my Windows laptops do some things better than the MacBook Air, such as the Windows version of Picassa. I therefore decided to retain my late-model Windows laptops and use them as needed. Nevertheless, I am not sorry that I purchased the MacBook Air. It is far better designed and manufactured than my HP laptop which is slower than the MacBook Air even though it uses a Intel 1.7 chip while the Mac uses a 1.5 chip. I find particularly annoying the incessant, intrusive advertising on the HP. There is very little of that on the Mac. The keyboard on the HP is hardly visible in poor light whereas the Mac keyboard is automatically illuminated in poor light. Above all, the Mac is exceptionally light and portable. It was easy for me to use it on an NYC-LA flight and I can easily take it anywhere. Nor do I have a problem with the Mac's 250 gigabyte flash hard disk. I bought a portable 1 terabyte portable Seagate hard disk for about $55 (after discounts) and it works perfectly with the Mac. That was a far better solution than buying a Mac Pro and spending an exorbitant amount on a built-in hard drive on the Mac Pro. Do I regret buying the MacBook Air? Absolutely Not! I use it about 90 percent of the time, but I do think Windows software is easier to use and manage,

I got it for a gift
I never would have bought it for myself. My daughter bought it for me for Christmas and I love it! The reason I love it so much is that she also bought the one to one and that has made it for me.Everyone helps you out. If they did not have that program it would have been very hard for me to enjoy and learn. THIS PROGRAM made all the difference in the world. I have an Verizon phone and I have had a very hard time with it. They really do not have this kind of an program for it. I will miss having the one on one when I head up north in a few week as we are in a small town. I will have apple care and I hope that will help. I have done Apples group class also and met some really nice ladies there. When my contract with Verizon is up I will switch to an Apple phone for sure,

Smart, concise answers to common issues
Sometimes no, MOST times, authors bore you with trivial details to educate on subjects that don't have anything to do with your particular issue. If my car won't start I don't want to wade through pages of "Early American internal combustion engines and the men who loved them". Jason Rich has organized his book to highlight subjects that occur frequently and commonly. I bought it as a Kindle version and couldn't be happier. Now when my wife calls me to bit*h about a problem she's having, I have a resource that she and I can read through together even if we are miles apart (which is where I want to be when she has a problem) using the Kindle apps or cloud on whatever computer we are near. Strong work!

A good Gudie for those switching to a Mac
A good step by step guide to using a Mac based computer. The chapter on transitioning from a windows based computer was very helpful.

Good resource, especially for my learning style
Sure beats paying the Apple store $100 & having to make an appointment to go in every time I have a question! Instead, using this book, I'm able to work at my own pace at home. Also, I have taken the free "Intro. to Mac" workshop once and plan to take it at least a couple more times; it was very beneficial because the instructor pointed out features that I didn't know about and so would have had to read the book cover to cover in order to discover. Playing around on my own and using the book and workshops as resources has worked fine for me

Macbook Air how to book
It is an okay book. You really need to have the book downloaded on another device so you can work along with each concept. I have it on my Kindle Fire and can work through the concept.

Slightly Outdated
I found the book to be slightly outdated. Can't be helped I suppose. O.S. mentioned no longer current. If you have a new Mac Air (2017) some of the information isn't helpful. Does give general ideas for new users (me) to figure things out for yourself.
