NOT a FNM/Patton Rip Off
A band like Dog Fashion Disco is going to stir up controversy anyway you look at it. They are going to get hit for their lyrical content, the music itself(for the people that don't get it) or because they get slammed for being Faith No More/Mike Patton rip offs. I take the last matter seriously because at first I thought about calling this review "The Best Album Mike Patton Never Did". But I took a little time to really think about it. I at one point was such a Faith No More purist that when I bought the first Dog Fashion Disco album back in 2001 I hated it and could not get what they were doing. But that all changed when I heard "Committed to a Bright Future", which is a KILLER album. But we are not talking about that album, which in my opinion is very different from this incredible album, "Adultery". I have seen the write ups that slam Todd and his vocal performances listing Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, etc. as being apparently the only thing he listens to and I though I find some merit because it sounds that way, it is not fair. I am sorry but it is one thing to be a music fan who just listens to music, it is a totally different thing to be a music fan and be a musician(recording on top of that). We all know that music has a tremendous impact on us all, just look at someone who doesn't listen or care about music and you will see someone who is so different you know it almost the moment you meet them. But when you play an instrument, record albums, music takes such a different role in your life. It IS your life. What I am trying to say is that Dog Fashion Disco are too good just to be a rip off of a band that may or may not have been influences on them, considering Faith No More were around 20 years before. But look at how many times people have been called rip offs of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Van Halen-especially Eddie, Metallica & James Hetfield. The list goes on and on. If we look at things, is Mike Patton the ONLY sick and crazy guy who sings like this, writes lyrics like this in the past 20+ years? No. It is not fair to Todd and the rest of the crew that have recorded any of the Dog Fashion Disco albums. "Adultery" is an amazing album that is a concept album full of seedy craziness and warped music that any fan of twisted and complex music should be able to delve into and find a piece of music that you will listen to over and over again. This band deserves the credit they deserve for songs like "Sweet Insanity", "Desert Grave", "Private Eye" and "Adultery" just to name a few. Surprisingly the song samples on Amazon get the point across and if you need more than go to Youtube. Be fair to yourself and find a way to enjoy Faith No More/Mike Patton AND Dog Fashion Disco and your world will be a lot happier.

Great Concept Album
DOG FASHION DISCO hits pay dirt on "Adultery", a concept album that continues to showcase the band's lunatic genre blend of strangely accessible hard rock, metal, punk, jazz, ska (you name it) and all-around musical boundary-pushing. But first, the concept: "Adultery" is about a seemingly normal guy in his mid-30s, burdened with a wife, kids, and a safe corporate job. He caves in to his own demons, and begins flirting with drugs, prostitutes and eventually gives in to his dark desires and sadistic and murderous lifestyle." Translation: A sordid piece of pulp fiction tailor made for DOG FASHION DISCO's psychotic aural episodes. Storytelling and the painting of images through musical expression is a prime reason why "Adultery" comes off so well.

multiply my 5 star rating by infinity
this is what a concept album should be. MIND BLOWINGLY EXECUTED. so complete and beautiful in a dark way. They really worked hard on this and its quite a mature jump from earlier works I own 2 copies myself since i tend to play them out. yet again the lyrics are researched then twisted making its so much more intellectual than most other horror and dark type music. Tods ability to take history and turn it into poetry is at its best here. I am at a bit of a loss as what more to say pother than really listen through the whole thing before making any rash conclusions I had the cd for 2 years before actually listening and i was FLOORD when i realized what i was missing by prematurely judging it based on its new dfd sound.

DFD's Swansong
In a final send off for the band (and with a much diffeent lineup from their first two releases), DFD delivers the strange, thea avant garde, and the heavy with Adultery. The lineup works perfecly, and the band avoids doing anything they have before. The storyline of this concept album is good, but not necessary; most songs stand up on their own, as well as part of a greater whole. Only on tracks suck as "Dead Virgins Don't Sing" and "Private Eye" does the concept take control (especially on the latter). Overall, this album is damn near perfect.

Might be just for fans of the band, but they'll be happy
I really didn't know much about this, only the fact that the band was putting out a new cd. This band has always put out interesting material but always seems to stick to solely satisfying it's die hard fans. However, on this themed release the band unleashes some of it's best work. This time around, the album is less about Mushrooms, toilets and albino Rhinos, and sticki more to an adult themed story about cheating and Murder. The album is pulled off quite well, and they've pretty much bucked off a lot of the "I love Mike Patton" Influence, although it is still very present, as songs like "The Sacrifice of Miss rose Covington" and "Silent film" almost dive right into the Dillinger Escape Plan/Mike Patton collaboration, while the Bungle is still very present. The band branches out too, with Jazzy shuffles and breakdowns bursting out and very well done, and then there's the Johnny Cash-esque "Desert Grave" That works. Sticking with the theme of the album "private Eye" is an intersting track to tie everything together. Fans of the band will agree their finest skills of songwriting can be found in the songs "Darkest Days" and "100 Suicides". A fantastic album, even though it won't go much further than fans of the band, it should stretch a lot farther, this is their best release to date.

AMAZING Album!!
I love this album! Every song is perfect, one right after the other. My favorite being Darkest Days, with its beautiful melodies and gut-wrenching vocals, it is a masterpiece in itself. Rounded out with songs like Sweet Insanity, Desert Grave and 100 Suicides, this album is easily one of the best albums released in the 2000's.
