Excellent for begginers and for HSK tests
Excellent story, well written. The text is simple, and brings everyday dialogues. This collection helps to take your knowledge of chinese out of the textbooks and bring it to real life. When studying the textbooks, there is a tendency to memorize the chinese character inside the context of the texbook, but when you find it in another context, it is possible you won't recognize it. These books help you to memorize the characters in any context, to familiarize with everyday chinese. When learning any language, reading is an important part, because it is the best way to gather a good vocabulary and to learn how to say everyday things in that language. The difficulty in learning chinese is that every character is a word, and with about 350 characters you are not able to read a full book, a newspaper, or even a children's book without tremendous effort, and therefore you cannot develop your knowledge of the language through reading. These books fill up this gap, because of the clever choice of words which you find in any chinese textbook. The combination of a good story, a text with well chosen words and the questionnaires at the end to check your understanding make this a unique collection for first level students of the chinese language.

Weird but good practice for beginners
The book is good practice if you are learning Chinese. The book is entirely in characters and has a little CD if you also want to listen to it. There are some pinyin and definitions for some words and phrases that they feel a 300 word level person wouldn't know. The book as a book however, doesn't really make too much sense.

Really great story! I was worried it would be childish because of the book title and the main characters being children, but I was very pleasantly surprised and delighted. The story is engaging and fun. It is about two young children that go missing after they are supposed to go to English class. The first half is a bit suspenseful and follows the parents' side of the story. The second half shows the reason the children have gone missing and includes a super delightful fairy tale.I've been reading the Chinese Breeze stories on my kindle app and one thing I love is that when I come across an unfamiliar word I can look it up in my Chinese dictionary (functions the same as English dictionary just entirely in Chinese) or I can swipe to the built in translation app and see a definition right away. It's a really great and effective way to read in a second language :)

Two story lines: one modern, one ancient -- fun read!
I've read enough of these graded readers that it is getting easier with each new book. I "breezed" (pardon the pun) through this in a almost one sitting. This story has two story lines, a modern one involving to missing children who want to meet up with two characters from ancient Chinese lore. I found the story about 牛郎 (Niu2 Lang2) and 织女(Zhi1 Nu3) to be a good introduction to a Chinese folk tale, it reminded me some what of stories from Greek mythology. What made me happy about this story was that I could read the story aloud for the most part.

Got used book instead of new for some reason
Received a used book. Pages are bent and crumpled, not a huge deal but if I knew I was getting used I would have bought a used version instead of this one. Other than that, seems good so far, I like that it came with a CD for pronunciation. I wish there were more footnotes at the bottom detailing vocab, but other than that it looks fun and encouraging!

Excellent introduction to Chinese reading
As a review of the Chinese Breeze series in general, I find all the books excellent. They're easy to read for a relative beginner like me, all the true nouns are underlined which makes life 10 times easier. Additionally any words that you might not know are also underlined with definition in smallprint at the bottom of the page, hence making learning even easier. I've found that new vocabulary definitely goes in much easier when it is read in context in a book, so these are a great way to boost vocab as well. I currently find the 300 word level a bit easy but excellent for someone at approximately this level (around the HSK3-ish level) .This book is a nice easy read with basically 2 sub-stories. Sometimes at the 300 word level, the authors are "beating the story to death" with their sentences. By this I mean, with only 300 base words, they sometimes struggle to express the plotline and you end up with long, convoluted and slightly unnatural feeling paragraphs. However, this is the nature of a book with reduced vocabulary and it's not a complaint as such, just an observation. The included audiobook is great with fast and slow readings. The slow is probably a bit too slow to my taste, and the fast reading could even be a bit faster, but since it's aimed at elementary level students I think it's appropriate.

I liked that it had questions about each chapter so I ...
It is exactly what I expected. A very simple story, I could read everything and didn't really need to look at the vocabulary. I liked that it had questions about each chapter so I could try to think about the story and practice a little exposition of ideas in my head. Unfortunately, the book is small so I read it very fast. I am going for quantity instead of difficulty in terms of my Chinese reading so it doesn't feel cheap. But I will buy more book from this collection for sure!

Entreteni la forme
Très pratique et sympa pour entretenir sa connaissance des caractères chinois. Les chapitres sont courts, le suspens dure presque jusqu'au bout...
