Hellboy: devoid of political correctness and a great thrill ride!
First and foremost forget the one star reviews that are on here from the soy drinking, low T, politically correct, and permanently offended crowd. From start until finish this movie is an action packed thrill ride that doesn't tip toe around political correctness, it spits in it's face and is not afraid to make a great joke at the expense of others. The humor with the quick witted quips is spot on (such as when the medium acts as an empath for the recently deceased, and after is done channeling said spirit is asked if she is okay, and says "no I just had a f'ing person come out of me). The humor is great, Ian McShane is in great form along with a stellar performance from David Harbour as Hellboy. Daniel Dae Kim was even surprising with his ability to pull off a well done English accent as well. After some digging, can say this reboot was much closer to the actual comics, as opposed to Del Toro's fever dream of doing whatever the heck he wants (much akin to Burton's Batman's of doing whatever he feels disregarding the source material). My favorite part though was the depiction of hell on earth, with the demon creatures of chaos coming out of the ground, when the one monstrosity picks up the random citizen and then severs him in half on his arm/guillotine blade was brilliantly done. I would give this movie a 4.5-5 stars; I would say the dubbing of the music might be a tad too high in a couple of parts, but overall an excellent flick, great for a rental (or buy), but I bought it the day it came out (and saw in theaters as well). I would also recommend to buy this as well, to show Hollywood that we are sick and tired of the political correctness, and that some movies have to be rated R to make a great flick, not just aim for that PG rating and turn out mediocre crap (I mean, how can you have an accurate depiction of hell without being rated R). Also if you are looking for another excellent movie that throws the PC to the wind, check out the new Shaft that came out in June of 2019.

Good movie
I know this movie did not have great ratings like the ones with Ron Perlman but I thought it was hilarious and good. Extra gore than the other ones.

Don’t be a bozo: check out this Hellboy reboot. 🤘
This movie is so much better than what the pecker head naysayers will have you believe. Admittedly, Guillermo del Toro’s original 2004 version is better, but only because he set the bar so high. Despite living in the shadow of such a standard doesn’t mean this version isn’t good. It actually is.It’s hard to see anyone else in the lead other than Ron Perlman. While David Harbor’s take on Hellboy has a bit of a different spin, it is still grounded in the heart of the character. If Ron Perlman is to Hellboy what Sean Connery is to James Bond then David Harbor is to the title character what Daniel Craig is to 007. Yes, he’s that good.Ian McShane, who dominates any scene in any movie he’s ever been in is, sadly, a bit wasted here. His screen time feels short. However, his final scene in the film with Harbor, despite being a little melodramatic, is quite touching. Daniel Dae Kim is the film’s real sleeper. His portrayal of Major Ben Daumier comes complete with a British accent. Milla Jovovich as Nimue, the Blood Queen is actually much more interesting and well rounded than the trailer would lead you to believe.Sophie Okonedo as Lady Hatton is a nice touch on the canvas. Thomas Haden Church’s appearance as Lobster Johnson is a great tease/lead up to the sequel. Despite the odds, I really hope they make more.Director Neil Marshall does a good job with this reboot, so do yourself a favor and check this version out. It’s a good two hours hanging with some interesting characters. It may not be a great movie, but it is a movie that is good enough to make you want to see more of them. I really hope it finds its legs in the home video market so that Hellboy can live on. 🤘

Not as good as the two films from Del Toro and Perlman but good.
Although not as good as the two Del Toro films, Neil Marshall’s “Hellboy” film has its moments, it’s not a sequel to the Del Toro films but an alternate version of the same character. A pity that they chose not to be part of the continuity of the Del Toro universe.Hellboy (David Harbour) is once again pulled into a zero sum game with the world on the edge of destruction. Am evil sorceress (Mila Jovovich) has plans to destroy the world and tempts Hellboy with his own role in the prophecy.Featuring Harbour in the lead works fairly well but Andrew Crosby (the Tv show “Eureka”) doesn’t quite have the chops as a writer to create or flesh out the characters here. The other characters aren’t as well developed as they need to be though the film does succeed in making “Hellboy” and R rated film. Hopefully with the passage of t8me, this film will receive its due-it is pretty good despite limitations. Director Neil Marshall (“The Descent”, “Dog Soldiers”) seems like an inspired choice as director but the producers on the film interfered so much during production and post-production that Marshall has disowned the film. Marshall has stated it was the worst experience making a film he ever experienced. The quality of the CGI isn’t quite up to the two previous films with some sequences feeling like they aren’t completely rendered. It’s still an entertaining film even if the characters of Abe and Liz aren’t part of the film (well kind for Abe). We do get two other characters from the comics to replace these characters. The 4K does a nice job of giving this dark looking film the necessary h9me video release of the film.Special features include a documentary in the making of the film, deleted scenes and some previz sequences for the film. What’s missing are the voice of Marshall in the form of a commentary telling us what went wrong and what went right for this film.“Hellboy” isn’t quite up the quality of the first two films by Del Toro but it does have its moments. With a better script, Harbour would have truly shined but, as his, he beings a great presence to the film that matches Perlman’s even if it is quite different in its own way.
