No there's no padding on them, very light weight but warm, there very similar to wet gear for golf. Well worth the money for something light for cycling

Is there enough room for knee pads for mtb

No good if you want to wear knee pads underneath the trousers, but you can wear them over the top without any issues. Probably better to wear the pads outside incase you stack and ruin your nice new trousers.
